その記念すべき節目の号に、私たちの仕事を掲載していただきました。

50年という長い年月、日本の庭と、そこに携わる人たちを見つめ、伝え続けてこられた『庭』。

一冊一冊をつくり続けてこられた編集者の皆さま、そして関係者の皆さまの長年のご尽力に、心より敬意を表します。

天龍寺の枯れ松伐採
躑躅山の赤松は遠景から見てもいい雰囲気でしたが残念です。
伐採した後、いつも年輪を数えます。中心の方は広く、外にいけば狭くなる。剪定をし出した頃から狭くなっています。
17年前位の年輪は少し変わった感じになっています。過去一度だけ薬剤の樹幹注入をした事があったのがそれくらいだったような🤨

The clear-cutting of dead pine trees at Tenryu-ji.
It’s a shame, as the red pines on Tsutsuji-yama created a lovely atmosphere even from a distance.

Whenever trees are cut down, I always count their annual rings. They are wide near the center and get narrower toward the outside. They seem to have narrowed around the time we started pruning them.

The growth rings from about 17 years ago look a bit unusual. Now that I think about it, I believe that was around the only time we administered a trunk injection of chemical treatment. 🤨

花期は短いので早く見にいかなくては！

Lycoris radiata (Spider Lily) is a fascinating flower that blooms right around the autumnal equinox.
Tenryu-ji and Hogon-in are looking great—they’ll make amazing photo spots!
I planted the bulbs three years ago. There weren't many blooms last year, but this year they’ve burst into full bloom! 😆
Since their blooming period is so short, I need to go see them soon!

I did some weeding at Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple. Since Wednesdays and Saturdays are closed to visitors, I often go there to work on those days.
The steep slopes make it pretty tough work!
Before Sone Zouen took over management, I heard that volunteers used to travel all the way from Osaka to help out. This place holds a special place in the hearts of so many people.

彼岸前に天龍寺塔頭弘源寺のお庭の手入れに伺いました。
10月1日から同じく塔頭寺院の宝厳院と同時に特別拝観が始まります。
天龍寺では去年鐘楼前の赤松の古木が枯れてしまい、樹齢150年前後の松が無くなってしまいましたが、幕末期に火災にあわずにすんだ弘源寺には本堂北側の庭には古木の赤松があります。南側には古木の百日紅があります。
古木のある庭は説得力がありますね🥸

Before the Equinox, I visited Kogen-ji, a sub-temple of Tenryu-ji, to help tend to the garden. Starting October 1st, a special public opening will begin here, along with Hogon-in, another sub-temple on the grounds. Last year at Tenryu-ji, the ancient Japanese red pine in front of the bell tower withered away, leaving us without a pine tree that had stood for around 150 years. However, Kogen-ji—which managed to escape the fires of the late Edo period—still retains its own ancient red pine in the garden on the north side of the main hall, as well as an ancient crape myrtle on the south side. Gardens with such old, enduring trees truly possess a powerful presence.

Brought back some big pine branches from today’s work and got some great pruning tips from my boss! 👍
The sense for nature you develop through pruning serves as a foundational skill that applies to all kinds of work.
There are only three of us in the photo, but after everyone got back from their sites, the whole team joined in and had a great time sharing stories! 😆

天龍寺の曹源池周辺の松の葉もみ手入れを行っています。
　池のそばは昼夜の温度差が大きく他の場所より早めに紅葉しますので、早めに葉もみしました。
紅葉時期、松は古葉の色が抜けていきますのでせっかくの楓の紅葉がボケてしまいます。
　鮮やかな紅葉と赤松の赤い幹、濃い緑とのコントラストが素晴らしいです！見た目、生育、精神性において赤松と楓の相性は抜群です😀

We are currently hand-picking the old needles (leaf-plucking) of the pine trees around Tenryu-ji’s Sogenchi Pond.
Because of the severe day-to-night temperature swings by the water, the autumn leaves here turn color earlier than in other areas, so we got an early start on the pine maintenance.
During the peak foliage season, older pine needles lose their vivid color, which can soften and dull the sharp contrast of the maple leaves.
The interplay between the brilliant autumn foliage, the red bark of the Japanese Red Pines, and the deep evergreen needles creates a magnificent contrast! The red pine and maple truly make an extraordinary pair—in visual harmony, growth, and spiritual presence. 😀

今日は若手を中心に社内講習会を行いました！

今回のテーマは「パッカー車とダンプトラック」。

それぞれの車両の構造や、作業するうえで注意するポイントなどみんなで確認しました。
操作方法だけでなくメンテナンスの仕方についても先輩方からお話聞きました。

実際の現場で安全に作業するためにも、こうした機会にしっかり勉強していきたいと思います。

Today, we held an internal training session primarily for our younger staff!
The theme was "Garbage Trucks and Dump Trucks."
Together, we reviewed the structural details of each vehicle as well as key safety points to keep in mind during operations. Senior colleagues also shared valuable insights on maintenance, going beyond just basic vehicle operation.
To ensure safe practices on-site, I want to make the most of these learning opportunities moving forward.
Great job, everyone!
