英語で話すことに不安がある、現代美術の知識がなくて敷居が高く感じる──そんな方々に開かれたこのワークショップシリーズでは、国際的に活躍するアーティストやキュレーターをお招きし、お茶を飲んだり、簡単なワークをしたりしながら、言葉や背景の違いをこえてコミュニケーションすることの可能性を体験していきます。
2026年度の初回5月16日（土）には、アーティストの持田敦子さんをお迎えします。京都芸術大学の学生はもちろん、他大学に通われている方もご参加いただけます。ぜひお申し込みください！

持田敦子プロフィール
1989年東京生まれ。2013年武蔵野美術大学 造形学部日本画学科卒業、2018年東京藝術大学 大学院 先端芸術表現学科修了、バウハウス大学ワイマール大学院　Public Art and New Artistic Strategies修了。2020年より長野県に移住、2024年より同県大鹿村在住。現在は長野と京都を行き来しながら全国的に制作を行う。
2025年Akademie Schloss Solitude（シュトゥットガルト、ドイツ）フェロー。2025年第35回タカシマヤ美術賞受賞。2021年〜2023年三菱商事アート・ゲート・プログラムの支援のもとプロジェクト「解体」（長野）主催。

来る5月22日（金）、世界各地のスタジオでその土地の素材を用いて制作を行うメキシコ出身のアーティスト、ボスコ・ソディ氏をお招きし、「ICA Kyoto TALK 062」を開催します。トークでは制作プロセスの映像を上映予定です。ぜひ会場でその工程をご体感ください。

ニューヨークを拠点にギリシャ、メキシコシティ、京都にもスタジオを構え制作活動をしているアーティストのボスコ・ソディ氏を迎えて、その制作プロセスと実践の背景にある思想をたどります。前半では、粘土や顔料といった自然素材を用いた作品の制作過程を記録した映像を上映し、素材に触れ、手で形づくりながら、乾燥やひび割れといった変化を受け入れていくプロセスを紹介します。 後半には、日本での経験を通じて影響を受けた「侘び寂び（wabi-sabi）」の美学に触れながら、不完全さや偶然性、そして素材そのものが持つ自然なあり方をどのように作品へと取り込むのかにも触れ、制作における意図と、結果を手放す姿勢（letting go）のあいだに生まれる表現のあり方や、その背景に横たわる哲学に焦点を当てます。 素材、身体的行為、そして作家の内的な経験がどのように交差するのか、その異なる軌跡を知る機会となるでしょう。

📢ICA Kyoto TALK 062 by Bosco Sodi“DIFFERENT ROADS” to be held.

Speaker： Bosco Sodi (Artist / New York, Mexico City)

This talk welcomes Bosco Sodi, an artist based in New York who maintains studios in Greece, Mexico City, and Kyoto. The session traces his creative process and the ideas that underpin his practice.
The first half features documentary footage of his practice — works made with natural materials such as clay and pigment — following the process of handling and shaping matter by hand, and embracing the transformations that emerge through drying and cracking.
The second half turns to the philosophy behind his work: how imperfection, chance, and the inherent nature of materials are woven into his practice. Drawing on the aesthetic of wabi-sabi — a sensibility shaped in part by his experiences in Japan — the discussion will focus on the tension between intention and letting go, and the expressive possibilities that arise in that space.
This is an opportunity to explore how materials, physical action, and the artist’s inner experience intersect across distinct trajectories.

ボスコ・ソディ Bosco Sodi
1970年、メキシコシティ生まれ。20年以上のキャリアの中で、世界各地で50回を超える個展を開催。豊かな質感と鮮烈な色彩の大型絵画で広く知られる。ソディは、制作に用いる素材が持つありのままの粗野さの中に、情緒を揺さぶる力を見出している。素材の探究、創作的ジェスチャー、そして作家と作品との精神的な結びつきに焦点を当てながら、ソディは概念的な障壁を超越することを目指している。
作品の多くをあえて無題にするが、これは、作品の直接的な存在を超えた先入観や関連性を排除する意図による。作品そのものが記憶となり、生の素材と作家との対話という創作プロセスを象徴する遺物となるのである。ソディが影響を受けたものは、アントニ・タピエスやジャン・デュビュッフェといったアンフォルメルの芸術家から、ウィレム・デ・クーニングやマーク・ロスコといった色彩の巨匠、さらには母国メキシコに息づく鮮やかな色彩に至るまで、極めて多岐にわたる。

Bosco Sodi (b. 1970, Mexico City) with more than 20 years of career, and more than 50 solo shows, all over the world, is well known for his richly textured, vividly colored large-scale paintings. Sodi has discovered an emotive power within the essential crudeness of the materials that he uses to execute his paintings. Focusing on material exploration, the creative gesture, and the spiritual connection between the artist and his work, Sodi seeks to transcend conceptual barriers.
Sodi leaves many of his paintings untitled, with the intention of removing any predisposition or connection beyond the work’s immediate existence. The work itself becomes a memory and a relic symbolic of the artist’s conversation with the raw material that brought the painting into creation. Sodi’s influences range from l’art informel, looking to artists such as Antoni Tàpies and Jean Dubuffet, to master colorists such as Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, and the bright hues of his native heritage.

𝐈𝐂𝐀京都｜はじめての海外グループ・スタディ・ツアー𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟞［マレーシア編／パイロット版］を実施しました🌏

2026年3月、学生5名とともに、ペナン（ジョージ・タウン）、イポー、クアラルンプールの3都市を巡りました✈️
現地のアートスペースや文化施設の訪問、アーティストや実践者との交流、宗教・生活文化への参与的な体験を通して、国内で画像を眺めたりテキストを読んだりするだけでは決してわからないことを、この旅を通して学びました。

移動と視察、同行者との会話、耳慣れない言葉、そして現地の料理🍽️
それらを重ねる中で、これまで視界になかった文化圏が、少しずつ身近なものとして立ち上がってきました。

ツアーの中で特に印象的だったのは、現地のアートやデザインに触れること以上に、現地の生活や信仰の一部に触れる経験だったと、参加者たちは振り返っています。
モスクでのイフタール（断食明けの食事）🌙や、街の市場、廃墟となった鉱山都市、ローカルなアートスペースの実践などを通して、参加者はそれぞれの身体感覚を通じて、文化や社会の多層性に向き合いました。

参加者からは、
「知らない世界に対する不安よりも、“もっと知りたい”という感覚が強くなった」
「自分の前提や偏見に気づいた」
「旅を通して、海外に行くことへのハードルが自分の中で下がった」
といった声が寄せられています💬

本プログラムは、海外経験や語学力に関わらず、異なる社会や文化に身を置くことを通して、観察すること、問いを立てることを目的とした短期集中型のスタディ・ツアーです。
今回のパイロット実施を踏まえ、ICA京都では今後も、国や地域、制度を横断しながら学びを拡張していくプログラムを展開していく予定です。

また、4月下旬には参加学生による報告会を予定しています📣
マレーシアのKopi（コーヒー）☕️やTeh（紅茶）も振る舞う予定です。お楽しみに！

In March 2026, we traveled with five students across Penang (George Town), Ipoh, and Kuala Lumpur ✈️

Through visits to art spaces and cultural sites, exchanges with artists, and immersive experiences in daily life and religion, participants encountered things that cannot be understood through images or texts alone.

Moving, observing, talking, hearing unfamiliar languages, and sharing local food 🍽️—these layered experiences gradually made a once-distant cultural context feel more real.

Many participants reflected that what impacted them most was not only art and design, but encounters with everyday life and belief.
From Iftar at a mosque 🌙 to local markets and independent art practices, they engaged with the multiple layers of culture and society through their own senses.

They shared:
“I feel more curious than afraid of the unknown.”
“I became aware of my own assumptions.”
“This experience lowered my psychological barrier to going abroad.” 💬

This short, intensive program invites students—regardless of prior experience—to step into different contexts, observe, and form their own questions.

Building on this pilot, ICA Kyoto will continue to expand learning across regions and contexts.

🌏 ICA京都｜はじめての海外グループ・スタディ・ツアー2026［マレーシア編／パイロット版］参加者募集中！

『ICA京都「はじめて」の海外グループ・スタディ・ツアー』は、海外渡航経験や外国語能力に関わらず、はじめて異なる社会や文化と向き合う学生のための短期集中型プログラムです。このツアーでは、体験すること、観察すること、問いを立てること、対話を重ねることを通して、世界との距離を自分自身の問題として引き寄せるための、導入的な学びの場となることを目指します。

2025年度はパイロット版として、東南アジアの一国であるマレーシア（ペナン、イポー、クアラルンプール）にみんなで訪れます。現地の文化施設やコミュニティを巡りながら、実際に「見て」「聞いて」「食べて」「歩いて」、土地に根ざした文化や社会のあり方を総合的に体験します。
そうした身体的な経験を通じて、アートが社会とどのように結びつき、どのような文脈の中で生まれ、そしてそれが自分たちの身近な環境とどのように異なるのかを考える機会になれば幸いです。

ICA京都では、このツアーへの参加者を募集しています。
学生のみなさんにとって、はじめの一歩になることを願っています。

国際シンポジウム2025「アート・エコシステムの複層性：シーンを構築するプレイヤーたち」、無事に終了しました✨ご登壇いただいた皆さま、ご来場くださった皆さま、そして準備から当日運営まで支えてくれたチームに心から感謝します🙏

ローカル／インディペンデントスペース、財団・民間機関、公立美術館。それぞれが抱える課題や可能性を、同じ場で開きながら共有できた2日間。今回で2回目となる国際シンポジウムは、佛光寺・白書院という、美しい庭に囲まれた親密な空間で開催しました🌿

海外からはバンコク、ジョグジャカルタ、ソウル、台湾、そして国内からも京都・関西圏をはじめ、広島や東京など多様な地域の方が集結🌏「アート・エコシステムの複層性」という俯瞰的なテーマでありながら、京都のアートシーン、日本のアートエコシステム全体に確かな貢献を生み出す場となったことを強く実感しています。

新しい出会い、再会、そして次につながる予感もたっぷりと生まれました🤝✨

この場で生まれた学びとつながりを、来年以降のプログラムにも丁寧につないでいきたいと考えています。
なお、国際シンポジウムは来年もICA京都主催で実施予定です📅✨どうぞご期待ください。

The International Symposium 2025, “Layers of Art Ecosystems: Making Actors Visible in Local and Global Scenes,” has successfully come to a close✨
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all the speakers, everyone who attended, and the entire team who supported the preparation and onsite operations🙏

Over these two days, we explored the challenges and potentials faced by local/independent spaces, private foundations, and public museums—all in a shared setting that allowed for open and meaningful exchange. This second edition of the symposium was held at Bukkōji Temple’s Shiroshoin, an intimate venue surrounded by a beautiful garden🌿

We welcomed participants from Bangkok, Yogyakarta, Seoul, Taiwan, as well as from across Japan—including Kyoto and the Kansai region, Hiroshima, and Tokyo🌏 Despite its broad and overarching theme, “Layers of Art Ecosystems,” the symposium truly became a platform that contributes to the art scene in Kyoto and to Japan’s wider art ecosystem.

New encounters, reunions, and many inspiring moments emerged throughout the program🤝✨

We hope to carry forward the insights and connections born here into next year’s initiatives and beyond. The International Symposium will continue next year as well, organized by ICA Kyoto📅✨Please stay tuned.

「KYOTO Gathering for Asian Art Students – アジア美術系大学学生会議 2025」は、11月12日〜14日の3日間のプログラムを無事に終えることができました🤝✨
東南アジア・東アジア各地から参加してくれた35名の学生のみなさん、深い問いと、率直で誠実な対話を本当にありがとうございました！
基調講演を行ってくださった Patrick Floresさん、Yee I-Lannさん、ファシリテーター、そして本プログラムを支えてくださった国際交流基金に、心より感謝いたします。
ここ京都で生まれたネットワークと対話が、それぞれの都市やキャンパスに戻ってからも続き、育まれていきますように。
またどこかで、そしていつか再び京都でお会いできますように。

📢ICA Kyoto TALK 061 by Bob Edrian “Sound and Media Art as the Foundation for Curatorial Practice” to be held.

This talk will feature Bob Edrian, an independent curator based in Jakarta, tracing his curatorial career and research in media, sound, and contemporary art in Indonesia.
The first half of the talk will look back at his practices since studying art history and theory at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Focusing his research on sound art and media art, he will introduce several exhibitions and projects he has worked on, as well as his path as a curator.
In the second half, we will delve into the development of sound and media art history in Indonesia and the cultural context behind them, featuring both representative figures of Indonesian contemporary art—such as Heri Dono, Jompet Kuswidananto, Duto Hardono, and Bagus Pandega—and emerging young artists.

ボブ・エドリアン 略歴
1988年、インドネシア・バンドン生まれ。バンドン工科大学で版画を学び、美術理論・美術史の修士号を取得。現在も同地を拠点に、世界各地で活動。メディアアートやサウンド・プラクティスの発展に関心を寄せ、リサーチとキュレーション、執筆を横断しながら、アートとテクノロジー、コミュニティのあいだに新たな関係を築く試みを続けている。 これまでに《International Media Art Festival Instrumenta》（2018–2019年）、《Universal Iteration》（2021–2023年）、《Festival Komunitas Seni Media (Media Art Community Festival)》 (2024-2025) など、多数の展覧会やプロジェクトを企画。詩的でありながらも実験的なアプローチにより、アジアのメディア文化に新たな視座を提示している。NuArt Sculpture Park（2020–2022年）のキュレーターや、IndoArtNow（2023–2024年）のプロジェクト・ディレクターを務めたほか、Para Site（香港）やin-tangible institute（バンコク）など国際的な研修プログラムにも参加している。「Biennale Jogja 18（ジョグジャカルタ・ビエンナーレ2025）」キュレーター。

About Guest Speaker: Bob Edrian
Born in 1988 in Bandung, Indonesia. He studied printmaking and later earned his MA in Art Theory and History from the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Based in Jakarta, he continues to work internationally, exploring the evolving relationship between media art, sound practices, and social contexts. Through his curatorial, research, and writing practices, he investigates how art, technology, and community can intersect to create new forms of dialogue and experience. His curatorial projects include International Media Art Festival Instrumenta (2018–2019), Universal Iteration (2021–2023), and Festival Komunitas Seni Media (Media Art Community Festival (2024-2025), among many others. Known for a poetic yet experimental approach, his work has opened new perspectives on contemporary media cultures in Asia. He has served as curator at Biennale Jogja 18 (2025) and NuArt Sculpture Park (2020–2022), as project director at IndoArtNow (2023–2024), and participated in international development programs such as Para Site (Hong Kong) and in-tangible institute (Bangkok).

来る10月21日（火）、京都芸術大学大学院芸術実践領域のアトリエ「CAPS」内にて、アーティストの島袋道浩氏をお招きし、「ICA Kyoto TALK 060」を開催します。「CAPS（Contemporary Art Practice Studio）」は、アーティストの名和晃平氏率いるクリエイティブ・プラットフォーム「Sandwich」が設計監修を手がけ、制作と展示の両機能を有し、開かれた創造環境を目指して構築された画期的なスペースです。今まさにアーティストを育むスタジオで、国際的に活躍する島袋氏のこれまでの軌跡から学びます。ぜひご参加ください。

島袋道浩（アーティスト）「どうやってアーティストになったか」

本トークでは、アーティストの島袋道浩氏を迎え、その初期キャリアから現在に至る実践をたどります。前半では、日本の美術教育への違和感を契機にサンフランシスコ美術大学へ留学した経験を出発点とし、若手アーティストとしてどのように活動の基盤を築き、国際的な展開へとつなげていったのかを振り返ります。後半では、会場の参加者を交えたディスカッションを通じて、制度に依存せず作品を生み出す実践や、体験性・一回性を重視した作品のあり方をめぐって意見を交わします。島袋氏の歩みを手がかりに、挑戦や試行錯誤を含めながら、制作とキャリア形成の両面から創造の実践を再考・共有する機会とします。

📢ICA Kyoto TALK 060 by SHIMABUKU “How I Became an Artist” to be held.

In this talk, we welcome artist SHIMABUKU to trace his practice from the early stages of his career to the present.
In the first half, he will reflect on how his sense of dissonance with Japan’s art education led him to study at the San Francisco Art Institute, and how, as a young artist, he established the foundation of his practice and expanded it onto the international stage.
The latter half will feature an open discussion with participants, exploring ways of creating works independent of institutional frameworks, and considering the nature of art that values experience and uniqueness of each moment.
Through SHIMABUKU’s artistic journey—including his challenges and experiments—this talk offers an opportunity to reconsider and share creative practice from both artistic and career perspectives.

アート・エコシステムの複層性：シーンを構築するプレイヤーたち

国や都市を越え、アジア各地のアートを取り巻く多様なプレイヤーが京都に集結。インディペンデントなスペースや、民間支援組織、公立美術館など、それぞれの経験や視点を持ち寄り、アート・エコシステムの多様性とそれぞれの目的、責任、未来をともに考える国際シンポジウムを開催します。

From independent spaces to private foundations and public museums, diverse art players from across Asia gather in Kyoto for an international symposium. Collectively, they bring together their experiences and perspectives to explore the diversity of the art ecosystem, along with their unique purposes, responsibilities, and visions of the future.
