📣 Attention KIT Students🏖

The International Affairs Office will 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟏𝟕.

This period is known as 𝐎𝐛𝐨𝐧 (お盆) ,during this time, families honor the spirits of their ancestors.💗 It is believed that these spirits return to the world of the living for a brief visit with their relatives.

In Kyoto, many Obon customs are still practiced. One such custom is 𝐑𝐨𝐤𝐮𝐝𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢 (六道参り), in which people visit certain temples to welcome the spirits of their ancestors back home. Families then offer meals several times a day at the Buddhist altar in their homes to show hospitality.🍆🥒🍉🌽🍠

On the final day of Obon, the famous 𝐆𝐨𝐳𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐨 𝐎𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐢 (五山の送り火) takes place and massive bonfires are lit on the mountainsides of Kyoto in the shapes of characters and symbols, guiding the spirits back to the afterlife. 🔥
One of these is the mountain right next to our campus, which is lit up with the character "法."⛰

The 𝐊𝐈𝐓 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 was held last weekend on August 7th and 8th, designed mainly for high school students interested in joining KIT! 🏫✨

𝐌𝐜𝐚𝐟𝐞́ is a space where international and Japanese students regularly connect, and they hosted a special session just for these Open Campus visitors. We were thrilled to welcome a total of 63 participants to 𝐌𝐜𝐚𝐟𝐞́ over the two-day event! 🎉
Visitors had the opportunity to learn about various majors and different cultures around the world while speaking in various languages.😊

Before heading home, participants wrote heartfelt notes on our whiteboard about how much fun they had talking with the Mcafé staff. 🌟

We hope everyone got a taste of what makes Mcafé such a special place. We look forward to welcoming these students back to KIT as future students! 🎓

🇳🇱✨ Special Campus Visit from the Netherlands! ✨🇯🇵

We were happy to welcome 23 students from the 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 at the University of Twente (UT) in the Netherlands to the KIT campus! 🎓✈️

KIT maintains an active exchange with the UT through the 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦. During their visit, Assoc. Prof. TAKAHASHI Shun from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, who serves as the program coordinator with the UT, gave an inspiring special lecture. 💡📚

The visit also featured:
🎤 A mini-lecture by Asst. Prof. Wan-Jou She (Faculty of Information and Human Sciences)
🔬 Lab tours of the Assoc. Prof. Takahashi's and Prof. SAWADA Yuichi's labs (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering)
🛠️ A tour of the KYOTO Design-lab that KIT is proud of!

This year, 𝟐𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 from universities across 𝟏𝟎 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 have gathered to learn the latest textile science in Japan together with KIT students. 😄🌏

On the first day, they had a wonderful 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐨 (traditional Japanese braided cord) 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 as a icebreaker. Yesterday, they visited 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 to see traditional and modern industrial craftsmanship up close. 🏭🧵

Starting today, they are divided into 𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐊𝐈𝐓 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 to conduct hands-on experiments with the professors of 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. 🔬🤓

It’s a short program of just 8 days, but we hope everyone makes unforgettable memories and fully enjoys their time at KIT and in Kyoto! 🥰

🎉 The "𝐊𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐨-𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲" has come to a successful close! 🎓✨

For 16 days, 24 passionate students from Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and Japan came together to learn about materials science, chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical engineering. Through insightful lectures, company visits, and hands-on experiences, they gained so much knowledge and inspiration! 💡🌱

More than that, the students formed lasting bonds with their peers. 😊🤝
During the final presentations, students shared what they had learned from the lectures and also their cultural experiences in Kyoto. Despite their busy schedules, they made the most of their time in Japan. They experienced the Gion Festival in Kyoto and taking trips to Osaka, Nara, and Himeji! ⛩️🏯

🌟We were truly honored to welcome 𝐇.𝐄. 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐮𝐫𝐢 𝐑𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐣, 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐚.🇸🇮 He attended the final presentations with KIT President Prof. YOSHIMOTO Masahiro. He shared meaningful words about the importance of face-to-face collaboration in today's digital world and expressed his hope that these young people will become bridges between Japan and Europe in the future.🤝

🌟 We had another wonderful guest, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐚, 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐚.🇮🇹 He visited us before the final day for a warm, inspiring interactive session with the Italian students.😊

Seeing the students collaborate, explore, and grow together was the absolute highlight of this program. The friendships forged here are truly special, and we hope they last a lifetime. 🌏💫

The interview followed Italian media coverage of a breakthrough in the development of a seawater-biodegradable plastic by Prof. AIDA Takuzo at RIKEN (see link below).

Although Prof. Marin was not directly involved in this project, he was invited to speak as part of his ongoing efforts to communicate science in Italy. He regularly shares and explains complex scientific topics on social media.

During the broadcast, Prof. Marin explained the new plastic to a general audience, covering its background, key components, and how it naturally breaks down in seawater.
He also shared insights into his own research, focusing on two main areas:
👉Developing materials to control the growth of bacteria used in bioproduction.
👉Creating biomaterials that promote tissue regeneration after cancer surgery while aiming to reduce the risk of recurrence.

The scary thing about heat stroke is that it can happen even when the temperature is not that high. Don't hesitate to call an ambulance 🚑𝟭𝟭𝟵🚑 if you feel the signs of heat stroke. Always be aware of the temperature and humidity.

🧬The curriculum focuses on the real-world applications of engineering in modern bio-industries, including biomaterials, biofilms, and biomediccal sensing and much more. Through lectures by faculty and industry experts, as well as site visits to leading Japanese tech companies, students are gaining invaluable insights into global careers.

🤝 In addition to their academic teamwork, the students have built strong bonds by exploring Kyoto and enjoying local cuisine together during their free time.

👘 Held during Kyoto's historic 𝐆𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, this program offers participants a unique blend of cutting-edge science and rich cultural heritage, making it a truly unforgettable summer experience.
