Have you heard of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship?
One of the most prestigious and widely recognized scholarships for international students in Japan, the MEXT Scholarship provides outstanding support for students pursuing their studies at Japanese universities.
Applicants to Nagoya University's G30 Program may also be considered for specially appointed university-recommended MEXT Scholarships during the admissions process.

Studying in Japan is an investment in your future.

Here are a few tips from our G30 student ambassadors on how to start building your life and career while studying abroad!

Today, Minami shares how she develops her skills and prepares for future career opportunities:

“1. Build experiences inside and outside the classroom: I take part in activities like Model United Nations and aim for leadership roles in other clubs and student organizations. These experiences help me build teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, while also giving me valuable experiences to talk about in future job applications, especially as ‘gakuchika’ in Japan.

2. Build international connections: Studying in Japan, especially in the G30 program, gives me opportunities to meet people from many different countries and backgrounds. Connecting with people with different perspectives helps me develop cross-cultural communication skills that can be valuable for my future career.

3. Gain real-world experience through internships and part-time jobs: Working outside the classroom can help you develop professional communication, time management, teamwork, and more! It is also a great way to discover your strengths and interests."

We are back with our G30 ambassador Minami! Today, Minami would like to teach you a word of the day in Japanese in our series "1 min. Japanese".

Minami’s word choice is:

「空気を読む」(kūki wo yomu), which means “to read the room.”

She chose this expression because:

"When communicating in Japan, not everything is always expressed directly in words. Sometimes, paying attention to someone’s tone, facial expressions, or the atmosphere around you can help you understand what they really mean.

For international students, learning to read the room can be useful when making friends, joining clubs, working in groups, or even working part-time in Japan."

Did you know that studying law can take you far beyond textbooks and classrooms?

Today, our G30 student ambassador Minami is sharing a practical learning highlight from her internship at a law firm!

Here’s what Minami says about her experience:
“During my internship, I had the opportunity to see how law is applied to real-life cases. Lawyers introduced me to actual case materials, like dashcam footage from a traffic accident, court precedents, and an immigration case involving unlawful stay.
I also joined a study session on the Mongolian legal system and attended an online press conference on the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is one of my main areas of interest.
Since I had to sign a confidentiality agreement, I wasn’t able to take photos during most parts of the internship. However, I also had the opportunity to visit a wedding venue involved in a bankruptcy case. Seeing an actual site connected to legal practice made what I had learned in class feel much more real.”

Through this experience, Minami was able to explore different areas of law and see how legal knowledge is applied beyond the classroom.
