🎙️ Learning from leaders, beyond the classroom.

The Intensive MBA (IMBA) Program at the International University of Japan has launched Executive Conversations, a new series connecting students with experienced business leaders through interactive discussions.

Rather than traditional lectures, these sessions encourage open dialogue, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas, and learn directly from executives with global leadership experience.

Our first three guest speakers included:
✨ Mr. Toshiya Sano – Assistant to the IUJ Chairperson and former Marubeni branch manager in Tel Aviv-Yafo
✨ Mr. Kensuke Abe – Marubeni Research Institute, who shared insights on the unique global role of Japan's sogo shosha (general trading companies)
✨ Dr. Jun Murai – Former President & CEO of Tokyu Hotels & Resorts

From global business and leadership to hospitality management, each conversation offered students practical perspectives that complement their academic learning.

At IUJ, we are committed to creating opportunities where students connect with industry leaders and develop the knowledge and skills to lead in a global business environment.

The International University of Japan (IUJ) held its 2026 Commencement Ceremony, celebrating the achievements of 183 graduates from 44 countries and regions.

During the ceremony, IUJ President Takeo Kikkawa reflected on the divisions and conflicts facing the world today, while emphasizing that humanity has repeatedly overcome such challenges throughout history. He encouraged graduates to continue developing three essential qualities for the future: identity, diversity, and the ability to create solutions.

🎤 Research in 3 Minutes!
On June 4, IUJ students took on the challenge of presenting their research in just three minutes using a single slide at the IUJ Research Pitch Competition 2026.

Students from diverse backgrounds and academic programs shared research on real-world issues, demonstrating not only the quality of their work but also their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.

The competition brought together students and faculty from across campus, creating an inspiring environment for interdisciplinary learning, discussion, and innovation.

At IUJ, research goes beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to share ideas, engage with global challenges, and develop the communication skills needed to make an impact in their future careers.

📚May Lunch Seminar
On May 27, the International University of Japan Research Institute (IRI) hosted its May Lunch Seminar.

The seminar featured Associate Professor Robert F. Kane from the Graduate School of International Relations, who delivered a presentation titled:
“Quality Improvement, Cost-Reduction, and the Environment.”

Based on Kane and Pertetto (JET, 2020), the talk explored how transportation, quality improvement, and cost-reducing R&D relate to energy consumption and environmental sustainability. One key insight was that improving quality can increase service value without requiring additional transportation, potentially supporting more environmentally sustainable growth.

Despite overlapping with another campus event, around 15 students and faculty members attended. The seminar sparked lively discussion, with so many questions from participants that the Q&A session had to be cut short due to time constraints.

Sincerely thanks Professor Kane and everyone who joined the seminar.
