The FSO orientation for new students was held on April 10th.
The International Graduate Program on Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomed 20 new students for the Spring 2026 intake, consisting of 16 Master’s students, 3 Doctoral students and 1 Research Student. They come from a wide variety of countries.
The orientation began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Professor.Uchimura, Dean of the Faculty. The session was then hosted by Assistant Professor. Zafar Usama.
During the orientation, the new students were introduced to essential information about the University’s education system, including guidance on course registration through the University portal. They also received useful tips on how to make the most of their university life effectively and safely.
After the guidance session, all new students and their tutors gave brief self-introductions.

The graduation ceremony was held on March 25, 2026. All graduates of our faculty (both undergraduate and postgraduate students), as well as faculty and staff members, were present.
In our International Graduate Program, ten students received their master's degrees, and three students received their doctoral degrees this year.

Among the master's graduates, Ms. RUVA ISRAT JAHAN was awarded the Certificate of Excellence for her master's thesis.
Congratulations on her accomplishment!

Your graduation is just one chapter in your story, and we can't wait to see what unfolds next.

On 11 and 12 December 2025, ADB-JSP Welcome Gathering, Networking Session, and Exposure Visit were held at the ADB Institute in Tokyo.

2025 new scholars were invited and all the 10 scholars participated from Saitama University.

Day 1 – 11 December

Day 1 consisted of Session 1: Welcome and Intro to ADB-JSP, and Session 2: Lecture with Japanese Ministry of Finance and Network Gathering.

In the morning, welcome remarks were extended by representatives from Government of Japan and the ADB Representative Office. Scholars also had opportunities to learn about Asia’s Development Challenges, etc. and participated in a Breakout Session.

After lunch, scholars attended a lecture by Mr. Naoki Tani, Deputy Director of the Policy Co-ordination Office, Policy Planning and Research Division, Ministry of Finance, Japan.

In the evening, scholars enjoyed a Networking Gathering facilitated by ADB staff, where they interacted with scholars from other universities and strengthened their connections. A buffet dinner was also served, bringing the long and fruitful day to a pleasant close.

Day 2 – 12 December

On Day 2, scholars went on a day trip to the “Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center” by private bus. This is the only place in Japan where visitors can see a maglev train up-close at a speed of 500km/h.

They also enjoyed a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji from Lake Kawaguchi under perfect weather and clear skies. After the tour, lunch was served at Highland Resort Hotel & Spa ~Fujiyama Terrace~, where scholars enjoyed a variety of delicate dishes along with a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji.
We took many wonderful photos!

This event was a great opportunity for all students to build their networks and strengthen fellowship as ADB-JSP scholars.

The annual Mutsume Festival (Saitama University School Festival) was held from November 22nd to 24th.
International students participated in the festival by opening food booths, selling foods and drinks of their home country. People from Saitama University as well as local people from outside of the university participated in the event.

A welcome gathering for the new students (intake of Fall 2025) of the International Graduate Program on Civil and Environmental Engineering was held on October 30 in premises of Saitama University campus.

This time, about 37 participants including 25 international students, Japanese students, alumni, Japanese teacher, faculty members, professors and administrative staffs gathered.
During the event, new international students gave the power-point presentations to introduce themselves (past education, affiliation, home country, hobbies).
Thank you very much for the impressive presentation!!
Later, all members enjoyed games together.

On October 22, 2025, H.E. Mr. Abdul Hameed, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Japan, and Mr. Chaudhary Talha Bin Khalid, Counsellor, paid a courtesy call to Prof. Dr. Takafumi Sakai, President of Saitama University (SU).

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Hideo Ichihashi, Vice President for International and Global Education, Prof. Dr. Ken Kawamoto, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Associate Prof. Takako Ochi, International Office, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Usama Zafar, Graduate School of Science and Engineering from SU.

During the meeting, valuable discussions were held regarding future academic and cultural exchanges between Japan and Pakistan.

Announcement: A Community Dialogue Workshop on Disaster Preparedness — Insights from Filipino Residents in Saitama City

A survey was conducted in cooperation with Saitama University and Saitama City to better understand the disaster preparedness of Filipino residents living in Saitama City.
In this workshop, the survey results will be shared, followed by an open discussion to hear participants’ thoughts and experiences.

The event is open to all and will be held in a friendly, interactive format.
We encourage international students, residents, and alumni in the area to join the conversation!
