On August 2, students, faculty, and staff from Hokkaido University’s Faculty of Fisheries Sciences took part in the “Wasshoi Hakodate” parade at the Hakodate Port Festival in Hakodate City.

Around 220 members of the university contingent danced the famous Ika-Odori (Squid Dance) 🦑 as they made their way along the 1.4 km Jujigai–Matsukaze route, sharing the excitement of Hokkaido University’s upcoming 150th anniversary with the people of Hakodate.

Encouraged by the warm cheers of spectators lining the streets, they helped bring even more energy to one of Hakodate’s most beloved summer festivals!

8月2日（日）、函館市で開催された「函館港まつり」のパレード「ワッショイはこだて」に、北大水産学部の学生・教職員約220人が参加しました。

約1.4kmの十字街・松風コースを、「いか踊り」🦑で練り歩き、函館地域のみなさまへ北海道大学創基150周年をPRしました。

沿道からの温かい声援を受けながら、元気いっぱいに函館港まつりを盛り上げました！

On July 18, special campus tours led by Hokkaido University students were held for the public on the Sapporo Campus. Three tours were offered under the themes “Learning Ainu Culture,” “Walking Through Nature’s Bounty,” and “Discovering the Farm with HU students.”

Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) 2026 course “Universal Design for Public Spaces” was held from June 15 to 19.

Through lectures, simulations, fieldwork, and group presentations, students explored how public spaces can be designed to be more accessible and usable for everyone.

Libraries are said to have begun as places to preserve books.
Over time, their roles have expanded, but their spaces are still closely tied to learning and everyday life.

Hokkaido University has 23 libraries. There are also specialized collections across campus where books and journals are available for study.
