ALRC accepted irrigation engineers from Morocco

From October 24th to November 2nd, Arid Land Research Center accepted twelve (12) Moroccan irrigation engineers. JICA Chugoku Center is responsible for the program, “Extension of water-saving irrigation system in Morocco” and actual training has been arranged by the professors of ALRC and Faculty of Agriculture of Tottori University, in the field of irrigation. In ALRC, besides lectures, visiting professor explained his experiment of irrigation.
During the program, the participants visited Tottori Prefectural Experimental Station, located in the reclaimed land of Chukai, and studied the research on leeks. Also, they visited Land Improvement Association in Fukube, which is very famous for the cultivation of scallion. Furthermore, they observed the drip irrigation system of the farmer, who cultivates grapes at the sand dune of Izumo.
Moroccan engineers reported at the final session; “In Japan farmers play a key role in operating and maintaining the irrigation facilities, and we would like to apply such practices as we learned in Tottori, to the situation in Morocco.”

Dr. Firew Tegegne Amogne, President of Bahir Dar University, was awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for 2022.
He was a Foreign Research Scholar (Associate Professor) of ALRC from October 2014 to September 2015. Also, he continues his contribution to the research activities including the SATREPS project between Bahir Dar University, Tottori University, Shimane University and the University of Tokyo as well as academic exchanges with Japan including students’ and professors’ visits to Tottori University.
He received the award for his contribution to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Ethiopia.

Professor Atsushi Tsunekawa of Arid Land research Center was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. This is to recognize and celebrate Prof Tsunekawa’s continued efforts and contribution to dryland research, education and capacity building for Bahir Dar University and developing countries including Ethiopia. 令和2年度鳥取大学大学院連合農学研究科学位記授与式が新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大防止のため、中止となりました。
そこで、関係する研究室では学位記を手交するセレモニーを行いました。
学位授与者は4名で、エチオピアからの留学生です。
出席者は検温と手指の消毒、マスク着用等の感染症対策を十分とったうえで式（仮）を行い、ドームをバックに記念撮影を行いました。（※記念撮影時のみマスクを外しています）

学位授与者の皆様、修了おめでとうございます！

We set the Mongolian Gel few days ago.
ALRC has two gels. This gel is large one. (the another small one is in Mini-museum)
I heard it is a Inner Mongolian one, which could be called Pao (Mongolian yurt).
