Mr. Shusuke Taji & Mr. Kensuke Yamada (Policy and Planning Sciences Program, M1) from the Transportation System Science (Wada) Lab have received the Best Poster Award at the 73rd JSCE Infrastructure Planning and Management (IP) Conference, held on June 13–14, 2026.

Yuki Watanabe wins the Student Encouragement Award in the Annual Conference of the Japanese Association for an Inclusive Society

Yuki Watanabe, then a first-year student in the Shako-PPS program received the Student Encouragement Award at the Annual Conference of the Japanese Society of Environmental Psychology, held at the University of Komatsu on September 26 to 28, 2025.

Ms Kazane Itoi (third-year PhD student on the Social Engineering degree programme) has received the Centre for Environmental Information Science Academic Paper Encouragement Award for her research entitled ‘Environmental Psychology Research on the Determinants of Environmentally Conscious Behaviour in Japan and Malaysia’.
This award recognises outstanding achievements that have contributed to the advancement and development of the field of environmental information science. The original academic value and potential for further development of this series of international collaborative research projects—comprising the peer-reviewed papers listed below—were highly commended.

Kazane Itoi, doctoral student in the Shako-PPS program, received the Presentation Award at the Annual Conference of the Institute of Life Cycle Assessment, Japan, held at Musashino University during March 3-5, 2026.

Yuta Funato (MPPS) received the Outstanding Young Researcher Presentation Award at the
19th Annual Meeting of JSEP, held at the University of Tsukuba on March 8, 2026.
The presentation title: “Changes in User Awareness and Behavior Resulting from Bicycle
Traffic and Parking Regulations and Street Furniture Installation on University Campuses.”
This research was conducted as part of the “Third Area Smart Campus Project” by the
Human Smart City Research Organization at the University of Tsukuba, and as a joint
research initiative with Kajima Corporation

Wataru Kawana, a second-year student in the Shako-PPS program, and his colleagues
received the Best Young Presentation Award at the Annual Conference of the Japanese
Society of Environmental Psychology, held at the University of Tsukuba on March 8, 2026.
Their presentation was based on the outcomes of coursework Exercise in Urban and Regional
Planning, in which students conduct practical research to propose solutions to social issues.
