Haitai from Okinawa! Warmest greetings from the University of the Ryukyus.
I am very happy to announce our third online offering of our short-term intensive study program that is to be held from March 4th to 18th, 2022.
This is a credited (2 credits) program that has been designed around the theme of the preservation and sustainability of island regions, with a particular focus on Okinawa.
Students will learn from university faculty and guest speakers from partner institutions on various aspects of Okinawa, such as language revitalization, preservation of land and sea scapes, and Okinawa diaspora.
The program will also offer the opportunity for an online Japanese language class, and online immersion experiences such as a virtual homestay and other cultural activities.
This online program will be regarded as a pre-program for inbound students who wish to apply for the in-person, intensive short-term study program that is expected to take place in August 2022 (tentative) in Okinawa, Japan.
(Subject to Covid regulations concerning international travel.)
Kindly visit the following URL for information on our credited intensive program; the page carries links to all application details and required forms.

This program has been crafted to suit the needs of students who have an interest in the sustainability of island regions, Japan/Okinawa or have Okinawa heritage. It will also serve as a good opportunity to orientate students who may wish to explore possibilities for study abroad in Japan and Asia in future.
I sincerely welcome any questions or requests for additional information with regards to this program. I will also be more than happy to meet over Zoom with prospective participants who may wish to have their queries responded to directly by our university before committing to participating in the program.
Wishing you Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
