Umma University Umma University is the First Islamic Chartered University in Kenya located in Kajiado along Nairobi-Namanga Highway.

Umma University is the first institution of higher learning in Kenya based on Islamic values. The University is established to address the need of Kenyans for quality education and this will be achieved through offering Islamic Studies and Sharia, besides other programmes. The precursor of the university, Thika College for Sharia and Islamic Studies started in 1997. In 2007, the then Commission for Higher Education (CHE) granted the college authority to collaborate with the International University of Africa, Khartoum, Sudan to offer the two degree programmes mentioned above. The University is currently based in Thika but in the process of relocating to an ultra modern main Campus in Kajiado which is at an advanced stage of completion of Phase One.

FROM INNOVATION TO IMPACT: UMMA UNIVERSITY ADVANCES TO THE NEXT STAGE!

took part in the Innovation Competition, where a fireside chat explored the theme “Ideas to Impact: Building AI-Powered, User-Centred Innovations.”

The session aligned with the 2026 innovation theme, “A Decade and Beyond: Youth Innovation and Coastal Futures,” highlighting the power of young people to develop practical, user-centred solutions using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Following the competition, Umma University’s leading team will advance to Pwani Innovation Week in Mombasa, where they will compete against teams from other institutions, showcasing their creativity, innovation and problem-solving abilities.

We are proud of our student innovators as they take the next step towards transforming ideas into meaningful impact. We wish them every success in the upcoming competition!

UMMA UNIVERSITY HOSTS CUE DELEGATION ON AI AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Umma University hosted a delegation from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of its engagement on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation initiatives for the 3rd Edition of the Varsity Digest Magazine.

The delegation was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs (DVC-ARSA), alongside the School of Business and Technology team. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the University's commitment to innovation and the adoption of digital solutions in teaching, learning, research, and institutional efficiency.

The engagement also included interactions with students, highlighting the role of technology in shaping the future of higher education.
