Umma University is the first institution of higher learning in Kenya based on Islamic values. The University is established to address the need of Kenyans for quality education and this will be achieved through offering Islamic Studies and Sharia, besides other programmes. The precursor of the university, Thika College for Sharia and Islamic Studies started in 1997. In 2007, the then Commission fo
r Higher Education (CHE) granted the college authority to collaborate with the International University of Africa, Khartoum, Sudan to offer the two degree programmes mentioned above. The University is currently based in Thika but in the process of relocating to an ultra modern main Campus in Kajiado which is at an advanced stage of completion of Phase One.
