Among these are the admission of women on an equal basis as men; the recognition of creative expression and artistic production as the basis for a graduate degree in lieu of a thesis or dissertation (leading to the development of the Master of Fine Arts degree) and the ranking of many graduate programs in the first quartile of national rankings. The traditions of access, equality, diversity among the graduate student body, and of recognition of quality graduate programs reflect the University's Strategic Plan and serve as constant goals. In 2012, the GLUK received The University Charter for its efforts to support diversity in education.and is recognized for its contributions to mentoring future graduate students from underrepresented groups . The quality of graduate programs administered by the GLUK is reflected in the recognition received by its students and faculty. WE ARE A FAMILY 🤍 | Choosing Life, Hope & Unity

Today, the Great Lakes University of Kisumu family gathered in prayer and fellowship as we officially welcomed the new semester—a moment of reflection, renewal and recommitment to the values that bound us together.

The special prayer service was led by Bishop Joshua Owiti, who reminded us of the importance of faith, hope, unity and choosing life as we journeyed through the new semester.

Drawing inspiration from John 10:10–14, we were reminded of Christ’s promise of abundant life and His care for each one of us as the Good Shepherd.

The service was graced by our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hazel Miseda-Mumbo, alongside the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrars and members of staff, who joined the university community in seeking God’s guidance and blessings for the semester ahead.

As a university family, we recognise that we are more than students and staff sharing the same institution. We are a community that walks together—celebrating victories, supporting one another through challenges and creating a place where everyone feels seen, valued and loved. 🤍

As we embark on this new semester, may we choose LIFE. May we choose HOPE. May we choose UNITY.

WHERE THE LAKE MEETS THE CITY; A GLUK JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY 🌊🏙️

As we brought our Orientation Programme to a memorable close, our students stepped beyond the classroom to experience the beauty, rhythm, and soul of Kisumu. 🌊🌴

Their journey took them to the shores of Lake Victoria—the world’s largest tropical freshwater lake and Africa’s largest lake by surface area—where nature, culture, and adventure met in perfect harmony.

The experience was beautifully crowned with an urban tour of Kisumu City, offering our students a glimpse into the vibrant heartbeat of the lakeside city they now call home.

From the tranquil waters of the lake to the lively streets of the city, it was more than a tour—it was an invitation to discover, connect, belong, and create memories that will last beyond their first semester. 💙

Welcome to Kisumu. Welcome to GLUK. Your journey begins here. 🎓✨
