On Thursday the 27th August 2026, Economics Students Association of Maseno University ESAMUjoined the entire school of business and economics of Maseno University at Graduation grounds in welcoming the first years 2026/2027
as Economics Students Association of Maseno University (ESAMU)We are delighted to warmly welcome all our new first-year students joining the only university at the EQUATOR and a broader family of economists.

⭕ What are Inferior Goods?

Inferior goods are goods for which demand decreases as consumers' income increases and increases as income decreases, while other factors remain constant (ceteris paribus). These goods have a negative income elasticity of demand.

▪️Definition:
According to Paul A. Samuelson, "Inferior goods are goods whose demand falls as consumer income rises because consumers switch to higher-quality alternatives."

▪️Key Features:
- Demand decreases when income increases.
- Demand increases when income decreases.
- They have negative income elasticity of demand.
- Consumers often replace them with superior or normal goods as their income rises.
- Examples include low-quality food, instant noodles, public transport (in some cases), and second-hand goods.
