Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College took part in the 64th Kenya National Drama and Film Festival (KNDFF) 2026 held in Nyeri County under the theme “Bold Storytellers, Digital Stages: Driving Kenya's Development Through Theatre and Film.”

In a highly competitive national showcase, our talented trainees presented a compelling film advert piece “Ushuru wa Hakika” demonstrating creativity, technical precision, and impactful storytelling.

We are proud to celebrate a remarkable achievement as the production scooped Position 1 Overall in the Film Category.

The production effectively highlighted the importance of tax compliance while showcasing the power of digital media as a tool for civic education and national development.

CBET TRAINING - FOOD AND BEVERAGE OPERATIONS

Trainees from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College undertook Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) practical sessions in Food Production and Food & Beverage Service.

The practicals focused on professional meal preparation, culinary presentation techniques, table service procedures, and guest handling standards aimed at equipping trainees with industry-relevant technical competencies and hands-on experience in hospitality operations.

Through intensive practical exposure, trainees continue to develop skills in culinary arts, food safety and hygiene, service excellence, teamwork, and customer experience management in preparation for the dynamic hospitality industry.

SOLARIZATION OF MACHAKOS TOWN TVC

Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College is proud to be part of the national TVET solarization initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Education through the State Department for TVET. This transformative project is advancing sustainable, climate-smart energy solutions across TVET institutions while strengthening technical training and green skills development.

The ongoing solar PV installation at Machakos Town TVC demonstrates the institution’s commitment to; Enhancing energy reliability through clean and renewable solar power systems, Reducing operational electricity costs and dependence on grid energy, Improving energy efficiency through retrofitting and modernization of electrical infrastructure, Promoting sustainable and low-carbon institutional operations in line with Kenya’s green transition agenda and Building institutional resilience through climate-smart energy technologies

The project further integrates CBET by actively involving trainees from the Electrical and Electronics Department alongside contracted solar professionals during mounting, wiring, installation, and system integration works.

This initiative reflects how TVET institutions are becoming centers of excellence for renewable energy innovation, technical capacity building, and sustainable development.

Together, we are training the next generation of green energy technicians while transforming TVET institutions into energy-efficient and climate-resilient learning environments.

NATIONAL MONITORING ON CBET IMPLEMENTATION

Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College today had the privilege of hosting Madam Naomi Mwaura, CBET Standards Verification Officer from the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (SDTVET), during an official National Monitoring on CBET ( Competency-Based Education and Training) implementation.

The CBET approach emphasizes mastery of competencies, modularized training, outcome-based assessment, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and strong industry linkages to ensure graduates are globally competitive and employable.

The verification exercise focused on evaluating institutional compliance with CBET implementation standards, including curriculum delivery methodologies, competency assessment procedures, trainer preparedness, adequacy of training resources, quality assurance mechanisms, learner support systems, and integration of industry participation in training processes.

The officer commended the Institution for its continued collaboration with industry stakeholders in training, coordination, and competency development, noting that industry engagement remains a critical pillar in CBET implementation.
She further provided key recommendations aimed at enhancing quality assurance, continuous improvement, and full alignment with national CBET implementation frameworks and standards.

SPORTS DAY AND INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMPETITIONS

Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College today conducted its Seasonal Sports Day and Interdepartmental Competitions, a vibrant co-curricular engagement designed to identify and nurture top sporting talent ahead of the forthcoming KATTI Regional and National Competitions.

The day-long event brought together trainees, trainers, and various departments in a dynamic display of teamwork, resilience, discipline, and competitive excellence through athletics, field events, and a variety of recreational and fun activities.Congratulations to the ICT Department which emerged position 1 overall.

The exercise forms a critical component of the institution’s holistic training approach, recognizing that technical education goes beyond classroom and workshop instruction to include physical wellness, talent development, leadership, teamwork, and mental agility.

The competitions also provided an important platform for trainees and trainers to showcase and sharpen their sporting talents while fostering institutional unity, social integration, healthy competition, and personal development.

INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES- DORPER SHEEP AND GALLA GOATS-AGRICULTURE CBET TRAINING

The Department of Agriculture and Environmental Studies at Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College has today strengthened its Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) infrastructure through the acquisition and successful handover of two Galla goats and two Dorper sheep to trainers and trainees within the department.

This strategic integration of small ruminant production units into the institutional training framework is aimed at enhancing experiential learning, technical proficiency, and practical competency development in modern livestock production systems. The livestock will serve as demonstrative and training models for routine animal husbandry practices including housing management, feeding and nutrition, breeding systems, disease and parasite control, biosecurity protocols, animal welfare, record keeping, and sustainable livestock enterprise management.

With the completion of the livestock housing structures, trainees are now set to undertake hands-on practical sessions aligned with CBET standards, enabling mastery of the entire animal production value chain and strengthening industry-responsive agricultural extension skills.

This milestone underscores the institution’s commitment to producing technically competent graduates equipped with market-driven agricultural and agribusiness skills for sustainable food systems and rural transformation.

CONGRATULATIONS!! HELB AUDIT REPORT

Today, Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College had the honour of hosting Internal Audit Officers from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for a comprehensive audit exercise aimed at assessing the management, accountability, efficiency, and utilization of HELB disbursed funds within the institution.

The audit focused on key areas including HELB control accounts, student records management, communication between HELB and the institution, compliance with the signed MOU, and the effectiveness of financial management systems in place. The team also reviewed institutional controls to ensure transparency and accountability in the administration of HELB funds.

During the engagement, the HELB officers acknowledged the tremendous milestones achieved by Machakos Town TVC in strengthening financial accountability, embracing the HELB institutional portal, maintaining compliance with HELB requirements, and promoting financial literacy among students through regular sensitization programmes.

The institution also appreciates the valuable recommendations provided by the audit team, which will further enhance operational efficiency and service delivery to our students and stakeholders.
