SOLAR PV SYSTEM INSTALLATION INSPECTION - MACHAKOS TOWN TVC

Engineers from the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing & Urban Development (State Department for Public Works - Directorate of Electrical Engineering) conducted a technical audit and quality assurance inspection of the Solar PV Installation project at Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College.

The primary objective of the field evaluation was to verify compliance, ensuring the deployed Solar PV infrastructure adhered to the electrical engineering standards, component specifications and regulatory parameters stipulated in the contractual documents.

The site inspection and technical sign-off was led by Eng. Peter Murguiya - CSE(E) and Eng. Wilson Mugendi ( SJE - SDPW). The Engineers were satisfied with the implementation of the project so far and were pleased to confirm that the institution had completely turned to Renewable energy to cater for all its power needs.

This engineering oversight guarantees structural integrity, optimal power factor performance, and long-term asset reliability for the TVC's green energy transition.

MACHAKOS TOWN TVC BOG INDUCTION - MORENDAT HOTEL NAIVASHA

Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College has successfully completed an intensive three-day Board of Governors (BoG) and Management Induction Programme held at the Morendat Training and Conference Centre in Naivasha from 17th to 19th June 2026.

The high-profile training focused on critical institutional pillars, including: Corporate Governance & Leadership, Financial Management & TVET Accounting, Supplies Chain Management and Human Resource Development.

The closing ceremony was presided over by the Principal Secretary for the State Department of TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, PhD who emphasized the crucial role TVET institutions play in driving Kenya's industrialization agenda through quality, competency-based training.

The PS challenged our leadership team to embrace sustainable, green initiatives—such as automation, solarization, and rainwater harvesting—alongside robust industry linkages to position Machakos Town TVC as a self-sustaining center of excellence.

Our sincere gratitude to the State Department for TVET for organizing this transformative programme, and specifically to the event coordinators, Maryan Hassan (Director, Governance, SDTVET) Regional TVET County Director -Peter Kamau ,Abraham Kibaru (Office of Governance, SDTVET), alongside secretariat Imelda Lumadede for a flawlessly executed training.

INSPECTION OF SOLARIZATION USAGE BY KCB BANK AND CONTRACTOR

Officers from KCB Bank Machakos Branch, led by Branch Manager Mr. Stephen Kilundo and Mr. Ngare, were accompanied by Solarization Project contractor Mr. Harold Murimi of Hudomer Technologies to conduct a post-implementation monitoring and evaluation exercise of the just concluded Solarization Project at Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College.

The assessment mission was undertaken to evaluate the operational performance, utilization, and sustainability outcomes of the installed solar energy infrastructure.

Of particular note was the fact that the college had fully embraced the solarization initiative, with the installed Solar PV system currently powering equipment, machinery, learning facilities, administrative offices, workshops, laboratories, and essential utilities across all academic departments. This demonstrates optimal utilization of the solar infrastructure and validates the project's design objective of enhancing energy efficiency, operational reliability, and environmental sustainability.

The initiative has not only strengthened energy security within the institution but has also contributed to reduced operational costs, lower carbon emissions, and the promotion of green technology in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

We appreciate the Government of Kenya, KCB Bank's continued commitment to supporting sustainable development projects and the professional ex*****on of the project by Hudomer Technologies team.

GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT

The Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College Board of Governors Finance and Infrastructure Committee convened on 8th June 2026 to undertake key governance and oversight functions aimed at strengthening institutional growth and sustainability.

The committee reviewed the proposed Financial Year 2026/2027 budget to align resource allocation with the College's strategic priorities and development agenda.

Members also examined the institution's financial statements as part of their commitment to accountability, transparency, and prudent financial management.

Additionally, the committee conducted an inspection of both ongoing and completed development projects to assess progress, quality standards, value for money, and overall impact on the College's learning environment and infrastructure expansion.

This exercise underscores Machakos Town TVC's dedication to sound governance, financial stewardship, infrastructure development, and the continuous enhancement of training facilities in support of quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The exercise seeks to collect vital data on student enrolment, staffing, infrastructure, and institutional capacity to support evidence-based planning and strengthen the TVET sector in Kenya.

INCOME GENERATION AND CBET TRAINING - FASHION DESIGN

As part of the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework, trainees in the Fashion Design and Garment Making Department at Machakos Town Technical and Vocational College have successfully undertaken industry-oriented production projects, demonstrating practical competencies in apparel and textile fabrication.

The trainees have designed and produced high-quality dust coats for institutional staff, protective dust covers for Jitume Lab computer equipment, and a range of other customized textile accessories. These products exemplify the department's commitment to hands-on skills development, quality craftsmanship, innovation, and the application of industry standards in garment construction and textile product development.

The college welcomes individuals, institutions, schools, businesses, and organizations to place orders for dust coats, computer dust covers, uniforms, protective wear, branded textile products, and other customized fabric-based items. These initiatives form part of the institution's Income Generating Activities (IGAs), providing trainees with real-world production experience while delivering quality products that meet client specifications.
