RONGO UNIVERSITY HOSTS TWAK MIGORI TOWN HALL FORUM TO EXPLORE VALUE CREATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Rongo University today hosted the TWAK team from Remic Ltd during the Migori Town Hall Forum, bringing together diverse stakeholders to discuss socio-economic issues, value creation and sustainable development, with a focus on Migori County.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Michael Ntabo, welcomed business leaders, agribusiness practitioners, researchers, students and other community actors.

The forum explored how Migori can derive greater economic and social benefits from its natural, agricultural and human resources, while strengthening local value chains to ensure wealth generated from these resources benefits households and communities.

Prof. Ntabo underscored the importance of character and personal responsibility in leadership and professional development, noting that character is demonstrated through conduct, composure and interaction with others.

Speaking during the forum, Churchill Otieno, President of the Africa Editors Forum, Kenya, observed that Migori has significant productive assets but continues to experience gaps in value creation and retention.

Participants called for stronger collaboration among farmers, researchers, the private sector, Rongo University and the County Government to develop practical and sustainable solutions, particularly in agribusiness and mining.

Rongo University was identified as a strategic institution in research, innovation, technical expertise and human capital development.

Day Two of the Student Orientation Programme at Rongo University continued with admitted students being welcomed into their respective Schools as they began familiarising themselves with their academic programmes, school structures and expectations.

The orientation also provided an important opportunity for students to understand what is expected of them as they begin their university journey.

Dr. Nick Namunga, Head of Curriculum and Instruction, emphasised the importance of consistent class attendance, reminding students that maintaining 80% attendance is a requirement for eligibility to sit for examinations.

Students were also taken through the University’s examination structure and encouraged to take ownership of their academic journey, while familiarising themselves with the University’s academic regulations.

On matters examinations, the new comrades were warned against engaging in irregularities. This attracts serious disciplinary actions in Rongo University.
