RONGO UNIVERSITY STRENGTHENS SUPPORT FOR STUDENT PARENTS THROUGH CHILD CARE CENTRE

The University continues to strengthen support for student parents through its Child Care Centre, an initiative established to provide a safe and supportive environment for children while their parents attend lectures, sit examinations and pursue their academic goals.

Yesterday, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Michael Ntabo, received the visiting delegation from the Lake Region Development Programme (LRDP) and ChildFund Kenya during their engagement with student parents at the University.

The engagement provided an opportunity to reflect on the impact of the Child Care Centre and the importance of creating an inclusive learning environment that recognises and responds to the realities faced by student parents.

The Centre, established in 2023, was born out of the University's commitment to addressing the challenges student parents experienced in balancing academic responsibilities with childcare. Today, it provides professional care and a supportive environment where children can remain safe as their parents focus on their studies.

Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Ntabo noted that the Centre has helped student parents participate more effectively in academic activities while ensuring their children receive appropriate care and attention.

The partnership with LRDP and ChildFund Kenya further demonstrates the value of collaboration in strengthening student support systems and promoting inclusive higher education.

At Rongo University, we remain committed to creating an environment where student parents can learn, grow and achieve their academic aspirations while navigating the responsibilities of parenthood.
