Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa aspires to become an institute of excellence in training shipping and management professionals with a view to contributing to improved quality of life for all citizens of Kenya, East Africa and beyond. Vision

s vision is “To be rated as world class learning institution committed to professional excellence.”
Background
- Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa was founded in 1994 after the director had trained shipping professionals under Soita Masikka and Associates founded in 1984 as audit and accounting firm.
- Accordingly, having trained for many years, students, who, during their foundation diploma examinations offered by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) based in London, United Kingdom, have broken world records (17) times, the Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa’s management is encouraged to state that they want to forge ahead in producing qualified professionals in management and the maritime industry.

- Furthermore, Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa, in pursuit of its outstanding activities in training professionals in the Maritime industry, has co-operated in the past with the Kenya Ports Authority and Kenya Maritime Authority for all its training activities. Today, over eighty percent (80%) of East Africa maritime professionals have been trained by Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa.
- In addition, and as the first Institute in East and Central Africa to be validated by the London based Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, it has collaborated with the following universities and professional bodies:-
• World Maritime University, based in Malmo, Sweden
• The University of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom
• Netherlands Maritime University
• The Institute of Commercial Management (ICM) in United Kingdom
• Association of Business Managers and Administrators (A.B.M.A)
- As a result of continuous proven performance in shipping and Management examinations worldwide, and with the cooperation and support of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in London, United Kingdom, the Institute was, in 1996 0ffered the status of nominating students who opted to take up Master of Science Degrees in Maritime studies at the World maritime University, (Sweden), Cardiff University, UK. The beneficiaries of these MSC programs are as follows:-
1. Robert Mbatia Watene – World Maritime University currently working with Kenya Ports Authority.
2. Sylvester Kututa - WMU now working with Express Shipping and Logistics E.A. Stanley Ndege Chai – Currently a consultant at the Ministry of Transport on blue economy.
4. Stanley Mwangi - World Maritime University now works with PIL Shipping Kenya
5. Geoffrey Ngombo – Netherlands Maritime University, currently Chairman Kenya Maritime Authority and Lecturer with Moi University Mombasa Campus.
6. Wilson Thoya Baya - World Maritime University now Director at Bacha Maritime Shipping Ltd Kenya and based in Canada
7. Tom Sindani - Cardiff University, currently working as a
Marine Insurance underwriter
8. Joseph Kapeku - Netherlands Maritime University, Research and development Officer Kenya Maritime Authority
- Today, the graduates of Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa, are occupying senior level positions in prominent maritime and banking organizations in Kenya, East Africa and beyond. The Institute has put Kenya on the world map 17 times by training the award-winning candidates, as indicated below:-

- It is important to mention that apart from its permanent training course programs in shipping and clearing and forwarding, maritime & Management Institute of East Africa has also been quite active in organizing and holding professional seminars, workshop and symposia in the Maritime fields such as port security (ISPS), port frauds prevention, transporting and handling dangerous cargoes, port operations, and arbitrating and enforcement of cargo claims in ports.
- These short professional seminars and workshops are always organized and training provided for Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Ferries, Inchcape Shipping Services, PIL Shipping Company, Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya National Shipping Line, Delmas Shipping, Siginon Freight, Star East Africa, Cargil Kenya, James Finlay and Express Shipping Logistics E.A. Targeted Objectives
- Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa plans to forge ahead with its maritime training courses and Management seminars and workshops, targeting for its foundation diploma courses, young Kenyans from high schools, from Universities and working professionals in the various socio-economic fields. Therefore, the institute plans, in conjunction with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in London, to ensure that its Maritime training course programs are continually reviewed and upgraded to meet the growing demand for Maritime training in East Africa.
- Finally, Maritime and Management Institute of East Africa in collaboration with local, regional and overseas training institutions looks forward to producing qualified professionals for the maritime industry in Kenya, East Africa and beyond….
