Abdallah Abou Hajal explored how researchers can move beyond simply using AI to using it responsibly and critically.

🔹 Every AI-generated output should be independently verified and fact-checked.
🔹 Human oversight remained essential throughout the research and publishing process.

His session reinforced a simple principle:

"A unified African scientific footprint starts with strong national frameworks," stated Joy Owango, Executive Director of TCC Africa, during the Zimbabwe Open Science Stakeholder Convening. In her address on the "Regional and National Open Science Context: Policy, Progress, and Collaboration," Joy broke down the core pillars of Open Science: from open scientific knowledge and infrastructures to open dialogue with indigenous and community knowledge systems. For Africa, advancing these frameworks is vital to enhancing the visibility of African research globally, reducing institutional access barriers, and driving evidence-based national policy.
