Africa Nazarene University, through the Directorate of ANU Online and the Department of Computing and Information Technology, facilitated a two-day professional development workshop on Children’s Engineering: Content and Strategies for the Elementary and/or Primary School Classroom.
Led by Dr Charlotte Holter, Ed.D., the hands-on workshop brought together 17 teachers from local schools to explore practical ways of integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) into everyday classroom learning.
With support from ANU STEM experts Paul Kahenya and Dr Emily Roche, participants explored the engineering design process, open-ended design challenges and developmentally appropriate activities for preschool and Grades 1–6. They also gained practical lesson strategies to support student-centred learning.
The workshop marks the beginning of efforts to establish a community of practice in Children’s Engineering, creating opportunities for teachers to share ideas and strengthen STEM education.
