Some sharp boys and girls running our senior schools are now taking advantage of the ongoing unrest to disrupt learning by sending all students home and demanding that they return with zero fee balances.

We ask: what is the relationship between a strike and fee balances?

If the objective is to restore order and learning, why turn a disciplinary issue into a fee collection exercise?

The govt must step in and stop this madness.

Hello, I am a fourth-year student at Kisii University pursuing AGED, and I am currently undertaking my final industrial attachment.

Yesterday, the university sent a message to my parent demanding that I clear my fee balance by 12th June so that I can be assessed. The problem is that the institution has failed to update the KSh 4,000 tuition fee that HELB already paid directly to the university on my student portal.

As a result, we are now being forced to pay money that has already been disbursed by HELB, simply to qualify for assessment. My parent is being pressured to raise funds for a debt that does not actually exist, while I risk missing an important academic assessment because of an administrative failure beyond my control.

What is most disturbing is that instead of reconciling its records and reflecting the HELB payment, the university is effectively asking me to pay twice for the same amount. Why should I be denied assessment over KSh 4,000 that the institution has already received?

I am calling on the university administration to urgently update my student portal with the HELB payment it has already received and stop penalizing students for errors in its own records.

At Utumishi Academy, a survivor has alleged the school had no water on the fateful night of the fire and a few days before the incident. That meant unflushed toilets, no opportunity to bathe, dirty clothes, unhygienic dormitories, and generally deplorable living conditions.

The situation raises serious questions about the conditions students were living in and the school's level of preparedness for emergencies.

These are the harsh realities in some of our schools, and the unrest will continue until we start treating students with dignity and as human beings..

Many Kenyans believe Kagumo High School has one of the best principals and senior school managers in the country. His name is Dr. Mwirigi, and some even say that if every school were to protest, Kagumo would be the last one to do so.

We don't know, Daktari, but let's watch and see. If these claims are true, then other principals should visit his school and learn from his leadership and management skills.
