Reports indicate that goons are clashing with police after the arrest of Abdi, and you could easily find yourself caught up in the chaos even if you have nothing to do with it.

For now, avoid unnecessary movement and stay away from the trouble. Your safety comes first.

These are tired and frustrated Laikipia University students who camped at the Pavilion from 11:00 am until late in the evening, patiently waiting to welcome the promised new university bus.

Unfortunately, the comrades eventually had to head home disappointed, with nothing to welcome except the sunset.

Still, they remain hopeful that the bus will eventually arrive and that this was simply a case of a bus delayed, but not denied.

As for the university social media guy, who has been hyping the event, he disappeared for the entire day. Perhaps he was wisely avoiding the embarrassment of having to explain where the bus was.

The top rising Tharaka University has emerged champions of the Kenya Universities Debate Championship 4.0, held at Multimedia University of Kenya.

The victory was powered by a formidable team of five law students :

1. Levi Mburu
2. Kabugi Ben Edwin
3. Charity Njuguna
4. Daniel Mbugua
5. Naomi Njoroge

The five comrades have now brought the KUDC 4.0 title home to Tharaka University, putting the institution firmly on the national debating map.

Congratulations to the team 🌹🌹.

We are receiving complaints from Tom Mboya University comrades! They allege that a sharp fresher is charging students taking an EPY unit Ksh. 50 for “registration.”

If true, the university needs to intervene before this comrade graduates into a full-time entrepreneur, and also save these freshers from being taught by the world before they even leave campus.

Some things can only happen at Chuka University.

Last year, John Tingoi, a Chuka University comrade, finished Second Runner-Up at the WorldQuant International Quant Championship in Singapore, beating more than 80,000 participants from around the world.

This year, Mary Odhiambo, another Chuka University comrade, has won the prestigious Resilience Award at the 2026 International Quant Championship (IQC) Global Finals in Singapore.

Think about that.

For two consecutive years, Chuka University has produced a global finalist and award winner at one of the world’s most competitive quantitative competitions.

As we have always said, the silent transformation happening at Chuka University, from infrastructure and academics to research and innovation, has not been seen before.

And now, the results are becoming impossible to ignore. The institution is representing Kenya on the global stage, competing alongside students from top universities around the world and winning big.

Mary, John and the entire Chuka University community deserves flowers 🌹 🌹 🌹 🌍🏆

We have been writing about university education for about 15 years now, and one of the most worrying trends today is the growing insecurity in and around our universities.

As we speak:

💔 Murang’a University is mourning a student who was stabbed by thugs.

💔 Kibabii University has lost a student, while three others are hospitalized after being attacked by thugs.

💔 Multimedia University comrades continue to live in fear because of frequent attacks.

💔 At JOOUST and Tom Mboya University freshers’ nights, goons unleashed terror on comrades. Several students were stabbed, while many lost expensive phones and other gadgets.

💔 At Maasai Mara, a comrade was killed and dumped outside gate C

💔 And across many universities, there are reports of break-ins almost every day.

This was not happening on this scale a few years ago.

Unfortunately, the situation has been made worse by the rapid increase in student numbers, which has pushed many students to seek accommodation in neighbourhoods that are not adequately secured and fit for human survival.

The government needs to intervene before the situation gets out of hand.

Perhaps a starting point would be to cap student admissions based on verified and secure bed capacity, both within and around universities. Universities and county governments should also ensure that neighbourhoods around campuses are properly lit, while security agencies need to crack down on gangs operating around these institutions and increase patrols 🚓.

Otherwise, we may soon reach a point where students themselves start shutting down universities because of insecurity. The relationship between students and local communities will also continue to deteriorate, making peaceful coexistence increasingly difficult.

That time may not be far away. In fact, it may already be here. Kibabii University is currently closed.
