Representing USIU-Africa and Kenya at the inaugural Maxwell Challenge 2026 in Singapore are Lola Waeni, Gilliane Nyaosi, Whitney Akinyi and Benjamin Kitonga, under the guidance of patron and coach Rachael Ngumi.
The Maxwell Challenge is designed to develop the next generation of dispute resolution leaders, and USIU-Africa is joining an elite group of universities selected for the country’s first premier mediation moot competition.
Going beyond a traditional moot, the competition mirrors the full mediation process - from online pre-mediation negotiations to the mediation itself and the development of outcomes that serve the interests of all parties. With mentorship and exposure to international best practices supported by leading practitioners through Maxwell Chambers’ professional network, the competition offers participants an exceptional opportunity to sharpen their skills and engage with the global dispute resolution community.
For USIU-Africa, the invitation builds on an increasingly strong international mediation journey. In 2025, the University represented Africa at the ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition in Hong Kong, competing against universities from around the world and further strengthening its growing profile in international dispute resolution.
