WELCOME TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI, CLASS OF 2026/2027!

This week, our newest comrades officially began their journey with the University of Nairobi arriving on campus, meeting their respective faculties at the Deans' addresses, and today, gathering at Taifa Hall for the Vice-Chancellor-UoN Welcome and Orientation address.

Prof. Eng. Ayub N. Gitau shared heartfelt advice to guide them as they settle into university life:

• Uphold academic integrity: "Your own work will always be worth more than a grade obtained through cheating."
• Look beyond the timetable: University is about more than exams. Build competence, confidence, and lifelong relationships.
• Embrace your freedom responsibly: Character is shaped in the everyday moments when no one is watching.
• Use AI wisely and ethically: "Let it assist your thinking, not replace it." Your judgement, curiosity, and creativity remain your greatest strength.
• Never hesitate to ask for help: Lecturers, mentors, counsellors, and chaplains are here to support you every step of the way.
• Represent UoN with pride: As our newest ambassadors, every post, every interaction reflects the spirit of this great institution
Taifa Hall has carried the weight of generations before you — leaders, scholars, and changemakers who once sat exactly where you sit today. Now, it carries you.

Faculty of Science and Technology Orientation 2026/2027

This morning, the Faculty of Science and Technology officially welcomed its new Class of 2026/2027 during the First Year Orientation held at Chiromo Campus

In his address, the Ag. Dean, Prof. Francis Nyongesa, called on students to embrace five key pillars as they begin their academic journey:

✅ Academic Excellence — pursue knowledge with diligence and integrity
✅ Character and Discipline — uphold honesty, respect, and ethical conduct
✅ Innovation and Leadership — think critically, innovate boldly, and lead with service
✅ Community and Collaboration — build friendships and embrace diversity
✅ Wellbeing and Balance — nurture a healthy mind and body alongside academic pursuits

Students also received guidance from Finance, Security, Library, ICT, and Student Welfare & Health Services on navigating university life successfully.

The Dean assured students that the Faculty will walk with them every step of the way challenging them to grow, supporting them through difficulty, and celebrating their achievements.
