Kenya Utalii College Kisumu Campus students joined other young people and industry stakeholders at the Tourism Week Youth Symposium held at the Mama Grace Social Hall, Kisumu, under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Create Opportunities in Tourism for the Youth.”

Present were;

The symposium explored emerging trends in tourism, youth employment, entrepreneurship, digital opportunities, languages and the Francophone tourism market.

Eldoret, the City of Champions 🏆 , hosts the 2026 UN Tourism Week.

This year’s theme is “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.” It will spotlight on how technology, innovation and AI are opening new opportunities for discovering, experiencing and connecting with destinations.

The event presents an abundance of places and activities to experience. From pulsating sports, to intricate local culture and heritage, the flavours of North Rift cuisine and enchanting landscapes surrounding the city, this week offers a rich offering of destinations and fun.

Eldoret is calling. The North Rift is ready.

Strengthening Global Partnerships in Hospitality & Tourism Excellence 🇫🇷🇰🇪

Kenya Utalii College was honored to host Mr. Bertrand DE SEISSAN DE MARIGNAN (Head of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs) and Dr. Lauric Cécillon (Attaché for Science and Higher Education and Deputy Head of Cooperation) from the Embassy of France in Kenya and Somalia for a high-level courtesy visit.

The engagement focused on exploring strategic collaborations to elevate hospitality and tourism education, enhance capacity building and open new horizons for skills exchange between Kenya and France.

The delegation was warmly received by the Principal & CEO, alongside key members of our leadership team: Director of Academic Affairs,General Manager, Utalii Hotel and Lecturers from the Language Department (French Language)

Language and cultural fluency remain central to world-class hospitality, and this discussion marks an exciting step toward deepening educational ties, academic exchange and language immersion for our students and staff.

Course Opening Session(Ronald Ngala Campus)

Presiding over today’s course opening session at Kenya Utalii College, Ronald Ngala Campus, Principal/CEO Mr. Mark Ogendi warmly welcomed the students and highlighted six strategic priorities that will guide their journey and contribute to their success, academic excellence, student welfare and wellbeing, research, innovation and creativity, digital transformation, infrastructure development and strong industry and alumni partnerships.

The session was also graced by the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Kilifi County, Mr. Mohamed Yussuf.

As the semester draws to a close, our Certificate in Food and Beverage Service students put their practical skills to the test during their Restaurant Practical Assessment.

The session provided an opportunity for students to demonstrate their competence in professional table setting and preparation, table skirting, food and beverage service and the essential closing duties, including clearing, cleaning and resetting the dining area.

Beyond the assessment, the practical session reinforces the importance of precision, presentation, teamwork and attention to detail, skills that are essential in delivering exceptional hospitality experiences.

As our newest campus takes its first steps, we are equally intentional about giving our pioneer students more than classroom knowledge.

This week at Kenya Utalii College, Ronald Ngala Campus, industry leaders and proud KUC alumni have been engaging our newly admitted students through interactive sessions, sharing real-world experiences, career journeys and the expectations that come with building a successful career in hospitality and tourism.

Among them was Mr. Alphaxad Chege, General Manager, Serena Beach Resort & SPA, and a proud KUC alumnus, who took students through his own journey from the classrooms of Kenya Utalii College to a leadership position in the hospitality industry.

His message was clear, while technical competence is important, character is the foundation of a lasting career. He challenged the students to uphold honesty, integrity, professionalism and a strong work ethic as they prepare to take their place in the industry.

The sessions by the General Manager, Travellers Beach Resort & Spa, Mr. Hillary Siele and Mr. Charles Onyango, Food and Beverage Manager, Baobab Beach Resort & Spa, further brought the industry closer to our students, offering practical insights and perspectives drawn from years of experience.
