Moments of celebration, leadership, and community at Hekima University College

We recently marked two significant occasions in our academic calendar; the Closing Ceremony for Academic Year 2025/26 and the HUCSA Student Council Inauguration for 2026/2027.

As we celebrated the achievements, growth, and milestones of the year, we also welcomed a new chapter of student leadership committed to service, vision, and community building.

These moments reflect the vibrant spirit of Hekima; one rooted in excellence, leadership, and shared purpose.

Here’s to continued growth, meaningful leadership, and an even brighter future ahead.

In the stillness of prayer and the breaking of the Word, through the celebration led by Fr. Norbert Litoing, SJ and the homily by Deacon Camille Mukoso, SJ, we encountered a profound truth:

Our hunger is sacred.

It is in our emptiness that Christ comes to meet us as the Bread of Life; not to judge, but to nourish, restore, and remain.

As Saint Augustine reminds us:
“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

Come as you are. Not perfect. Not complete. Just honest.

Speaking at the launch of the book African Synodal Theology: A Tall Tree is as Strong as its Roots, held at Hekima University College on 18th March, 2026, Bishop Rodrigo Mejía Saldarriaga, SJ, offered a candid and spontaneous reflection on the state of synodality in Africa, warning that it risks becoming a mere “event” rather than a transformative practice.

Bishop Rodrigo, the Vicar Apostolic Emeritus of Soddo, Ethiopia, and a founding member of Hekima University College, drew a sharp distinction between the success of African celebrations and the necessity of structural change in the church.
