Join us for the From Idea to Impact Business Plan Competition & Award Ceremony, where brilliant student innovators will pitch transformative ideas aimed at solving real public health challenges.

Through the partnership between AMIU and the Family Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation, the Health Entrepreneurship Academy has spent the past year mentoring students, strengthening their ideas, and shaping them into viable public health social enterprises.

Now, the best teams will step forward to pitch their ideas before an esteemed panel.

As part of activities commemorating International Women’s Day, the SRC and SRHR Club at Amref International University hosted an awareness event titled “Breaking the Silence: Endometriosis, Ovarian Cancer & Consent.”

The session created an open platform for students to learn and engage in meaningful discussions around Endometriosis, Ovarian Cancer, and the importance of sexual consent in promoting respectful and informed relationships.

Through dialogue and shared insights, the event reinforced the importance of awareness, early health-seeking behavior, and student-led advocacy for sexual and reproductive health.

Day 3 Recap of the 2nd PHC Congress 2026

Day 3 brought the Congress to a powerful close with forward-looking conversations on how we redesign Primary Health Care amidst global uncertainty.

From exploring how technology can accelerate PHC , highlighted by insights from Murang'a County Governor Irungu Kang'ata, digital health leaders, and global partners , to examining the intersection of climate change, health security, and data-driven preparedness, the discussions underscored the urgent need for resilient, adaptive health systems.

The day also spotlighted critical dimensions of PHC including supporting mothers and families through improved lactation management, strengthening the health workforce through innovative postgraduate education, and advancing inclusive care for persons with disabilities and conflict-affected populations.

As the Congress concluded, we celebrated institutional leadership and commitment to PHC, reminding us that building resilient health systems requires collaboration across governments, universities, communities, and partners.

Murang’a County was well represented on Day 3 of the 2nd PHC Congress as we wrapped up impactful conversations on strengthening Primary Health Care. Murang'a County being one of the counties spearheading critical health reforms within its own capacity, is now a benchmark for all across the board.
As Governor Irungu Kang'ata noted, “Health care is holistic. It is not just about treatment, it is an ecosystem.”

How do we build resilient health systems in an era of global uncertainty?

Day Two of the 2nd Primary Health Care Congress focused on practical solutions for strengthening Primary Health Care across Africa.
Conversations highlighted the importance of strong leadership, sustainable financing, digital innovation, and community-led approaches in delivering effective health services.
Participants explored how new financing models are improving accountability and ensuring resources reach frontline facilities, while digital tools are enabling community health workers to access real-time data, training, and decision support.

Discussions also emphasized the importance of community-driven interventions including WASH programs, integrated disease prevention, and protecting breastfeeding as a critical Primary Health Care intervention.

As the congress continues, these exchanges are shaping new ideas, partnerships, and policy approaches aimed at strengthening health systems and advancing Universal Health Coverage across the continent.

Healthcare Leaders and Practitioners Who Inspire Lasting Health Change In Africa.

Amref International University (AMIU) has announced a pioneering degree programme in Community Health Practice which seeks to address the shortage of trained community health practitioners in the sub-Sahara region.

The health sciences university is also introducing a BSc. in Health Systems Management and Development to ensure that current and future health systems managers are professionally prepared.

The two programmes commence on 10th May 2018 and will seek to equip high school graduates and middle-level healthcare workers with knowledge and skills for operative implementation of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

The Interim Vice Chancellor, Dr. Peter Ngatia noted that the development of the degree courses was informed by the experience and intellect of Amref Health Africa which is reputed with over 60 years of quality and innovative public and community health interventions, training and education.
