NDU-K VICE-CHANCELLOR LEADS STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENT AT BOMET UNIVERSITY AND DELIVERS PUBLIC LECTURE ON YOUTH, EDUCATION AND NATIONAL SECURITY

National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) continues to position itself as a centre of strategic thought, leadership and knowledge in support of national security and development. In advancing this mandate, the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, led a delegation from the University on an official visit to Bomet University, where he engaged the University community on the critical nexus between youth, education and national security.

The visit underscored NDU-K’s commitment to strategic engagement and partnerships with institutions of higher learning.

The Vice-Chancellor was received by the Vice-Chancellor of Bomet University, Prof. Charles Mutai, and toured various University facilities before delivering a public lecture titled “Youth, Education and National Security in a Changing World.”

In his lecture, Lieutenant General Tarus underscored the critical role of education in shaping informed, responsible and resilient young people capable of navigating an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.

He emphasised that an educated and empowered youth population is central to national development, social stability and national security.

He further highlighted the need to equip young people with knowledge, skills and values that enable them to contribute meaningfully to society and respond effectively to emerging challenges. He noted that institutions of higher learning have a vital role in nurturing young people who are not only academically competent, but also conscious of their responsibilities to the nation and the wider global community.

The engagement provided an important platform for sharing knowledge and perspectives on youth, education and national security, while highlighting the role of universities in addressing emerging national, regional and global challenges through education, research, innovation and strategic partnerships.

The visit further strengthened the relationship between NDU-K and Bomet University and opened opportunities for enhanced collaboration and knowledge exchange in support of education, research and national development.

NDU-K DEEPENS GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP THROUGH STRATEGIC COLLABORATION WITH CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Institutions of higher and technical education play a critical role in preparing individuals and nations for an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world. It is on this shared belief that the National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) and Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) have forged a strategic partnership aimed at advancing technical skills, innovation, knowledge exchange and institutional capacity.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Central Georgia Technical College in the United States, establishing a framework for cooperation in technical skills development, research, innovation, academic and professional exchanges, and other areas of mutual interest. MILESTONES REVIEWED IN NPLA TRANSITION TO NDU-K CONSTITUENT COLLEGE

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) continues to advance strategic institutional partnerships that strengthen professional education, leadership development and national security capacity. Building on this Vision, the University, in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS), is making steady progress towards the establishment of the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) as a constituent college of NDU-K. The Technical Implementation Committee convened its third meeting at the Academy in Ngong to assess progress, review key milestones and provide strategic direction for the next phase of the transition.

ZIMBABWEAN DEFENCE DELEGATION BENCHMARKS NDU-K’s EXCELLENCE IN DEFENCE & SECURITY STUDIES

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) continues to strengthen its position as a premier institution and centre of excellence in defence, security and strategic studies, distinguished by its commitment to professional military education, strategic research, innovation and leadership development. Its growing regional and international standing has positioned the University as a platform for advancing knowledge, shaping strategic thinking and developing leaders equipped to navigate Africa’s evolving security landscape.

It is within this context that the University hosted a delegation from the Zimbabwe Staff College Joint Command and Staff Course Number. 39, on a study visit aimed at gaining insights into NDU-K’s academic and institutional practices, exchanging strategic knowledge and experiences, and exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration.
