This week, Nakuru Training Institute (NTI) had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the African Union Development AgencyโNEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), led by Symerre Grey-Johnson, Director, Human Capital & Institutional Development, together with Mary Nyaga and Norman Khoza.
The delegation visited NTI to engage with and experience first-hand the implementation of the SKITWALL (Skills in TVET Without Walls) projectโan innovative Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) project designed to demonstrate how technology can expand access to quality, market-relevant skills.
SKITWALL combines online learning, blended training, offline digital learning through Skillsticks, practical bootcamps, career support and industry linkages to reach learners beyond the traditional classroom. It extends training to job creation through a jobs portal and a workers space within the Campus. The project is demonstrating that TVET can become more accessible and flexible by taking learning beyond institutional walls and closer to where young people live, work and learn.
During the visit, the delegation toured our facilities, interacted with NTI staff and learners undertaking their studies, and met some of our 2024/25 SKITWALL beneficiaries who have successfully transitioned into gainful employment. These interactions provided an opportunity to see not only the infrastructure and technology behind the project, but also the real human impactโyoung people gaining skills, accessing opportunities and building livelihoods.
We remain deeply grateful for the confidence that SIFA, AUDA-NEPAD, KfW and the European Union have placed in institutions such as NTI to demonstrate practical and scalable solutions to Africaโs skills and employment challenges.
SIFA FC is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union through KfW, under the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) by the African Union, and executed by the African Union Development AgencyโNEPAD (AUDA-AUDA NEPAD).
At NTI, we believe the future of TVET is accessible, technology-enabled, industry-responsiveโand without walls.
