Laikipia University successfully hosted the 12th Annual Health Week on 6th–7th May 2026 under the theme: “Preventing Non-Communicable Diseases, Managing Mental Health and Promoting Reproductive Health.”

The programme brought together healthcare professionals, partner institutions, staff, students, and the wider community in promoting preventive healthcare, mental wellness, reproductive health awareness, and healthy living.

Participants benefited from health talks, medical screenings, counselling services, and wellness engagements aimed at empowering the community through knowledge and access to care.

We sincerely appreciate our partners and healthcare providers including the County Government of Laikipia, St. Martin Catholic Social Apostolate, Bloom Hospital Nakuru, Nakuru Specialist Hospital, Charity Medical Hospital, Pearl Hospital, Pope Benedict Catholic Hospital, Scanlab, JoyEllen Hospital, and Equity Afya for their invaluable support.

Retirement Benefits Authority Engages Laikipia University Pension Members on Industry Trends and Scheme Performance

Laikipia University on 5th May 2026 hosted officials from the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) for an engagement session with pension scheme members.

The session, organized by the Directorate of Planning and Performance Management led by Prof. Samuel Onyuma, was received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. John Kanjogu.

The engagement focused on industry overview and pension scheme performance analysis, while also creating awareness on retirement planning, financial literacy, and long-term financial well-being.

The session reflects the strong collaboration between Retirement Benefits Authority and Laikipia University in promoting research, informed decision-making, and sustainable retirement benefit practices.

Ministry of Education Conducts Monitoring and Evaluation Visit at Laikipia

Laikipia University was honoured to host a Monitoring and Evaluation team from the Ministry of Education on 4th April 2026 led by Dr. Kingori Ephantus.

The visit focused on strengthening policy, decision-making, future funding, programme development, and assessing the University’s preparedness to receive the first 2029 Competency-Based Education (CBE) cohort in STEM, Arts, and Sports Sciences.

The team was received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.

Staff Update: Promotions and Appointment

Laikipia University has elevated members of its academic community in recognition of distinguished scholarship, service, and leadership.

Prof. Inviolata Vicky Khasandi (Applied Linguistics) and Prof. Nicholas Irungu Kamau (Literature) have been promoted to the rank of Full Professor in their respective fields, marking a significant milestone in their academic careers and contributions to research, teaching, and mentorship.

In addition, Rev. Fr. Dr. Peterson Kabugi has been appointed as the substantive Deputy Dean of Students, effective 1st May 2026, following his service in an acting capacity.

These advancements reflect the University’s continued commitment to academic excellence, leadership development, and strengthening institutional capacity in support of its core mission.

Strengthening Quality and Academic Excellence

On Friday, 24th April 2026, Laikipia University hosted a distinguished team from the Commission for University Education (CUE), led by the Deputy Commissioner for Programmes Accreditation, Prof. Abanus Mutwiwa, for a follow-up verification exercise alongside KUCCPS validation.

The team was formally received by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patience Mshenga, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. John Kanjogu. Their presence reflected the University’s strong leadership commitment to maintaining high academic and institutional standards.

Also present were Deans of Schools, Chairpersons of Departments, and Programme Academic Leaders, all of whom actively participated in supporting the exercise. Their engagement demonstrated a collective institutional readiness and a shared responsibility in upholding quality assurance processes.

This important exercise underscores Laikipia University’s dedication to compliance, continuous improvement, and the delivery of accredited, relevant, and competitive academic programmes. Bridging Research and Innovation for Community Transformation

Laikipia University is currently hosting its vibrant Research and Innovation Day under the theme “Bridging Research and Innovation for Community Transformation.” The event has brought together a dynamic community of innovators, researchers, and students, all united by a shared commitment to developing solutions that positively impact society.

Organized by the Department of Research, Human Rights and Gender, the forum highlights the University’s growing role as a hub for forward-thinking ideas and practical innovation. In his remarks, the Director, Dr. Benard Kurgat, expressed sincere appreciation to the organizing committee and University management for their support in making the event a success. He also revealed that the Directorate is in the process of compiling a comprehensive Book of Abstracts showcasing the innovations presented, ahead of the upcoming Biennial Conference scheduled for 2027.

The event was officially opened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. John Kanjogu, who reaffirmed the University management’s commitment to strengthening research and innovation. He commended students for their creativity and encouraged them to embrace their role as the next generation of researchers, innovators, and patent pioneers.

Prof. Munavu’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment laid a strong foundation upon which our institution continues to grow and excel. His legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Laikipia University and will remain a guiding light for generations to come.

Laikipia University, in partnership with KUCCPS, successfully held a career guidance and support session during the ongoing nationwide games at Nyahururu Stadium from 16th to 17th April 2026.
The session aimed to support students planning to join universities and colleges by helping them with their KUCCPS applications, guiding them in choosing the right courses, and assisting with any challenges they may have faced during the application process.
