Parliamentary Committee on FGM Engagement at The Nyeri National Polytechnic

The Parliamentary Committee on Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) held an engagement at The Nyeri National Polytechnic, bringing together stakeholders to discuss the status of FGM in Nyeri County and strengthen collective efforts towards its eradication.

The engagement featured a Policy & Healthcare Briefing on “Female Ge***al Mutilation in Nyeri County, Kenya,” focusing on regional trends, underlying socioeconomic drivers, legislative frameworks, and strategic intervention roadmaps for sustainable eradication.

Central Kenya has recorded a decline in FGM prevalence to 2.5%, down from the previous year. This progress reflects the continued efforts of communities, families, institutions, and partners in protecting girls and women from harmful practices.

Let us keep the momentum going—educate, empower, protect, and speak up against FGM. Every girl deserves to grow up safe, respected, and free to choose her future.

Give us wings to fly, not the pain to cry.

The Nyeri National Polytechnic was delighted to host Kigumo Bendera Senior School for an enriching Career Education Visit that provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with practical skills and real-world career opportunities.

During the visit, the students were able to explore our modern training facilities, equipment and practical learning environments, gaining firsthand exposure to various technical areas, including Building, Metalwork and Electricity. Through interactions with our trainers, they gained a deeper understanding of how the skills they acquire can translate into meaningful career pathways.

The students also had the opportunity to participate in an engaging Career Talk Session, where they were guided on career choices, skills development, personal growth, TVET opportunities and making informed decisions about their future careers. The session provided a platform for them to ask questions, discover new possibilities and appreciate the value of technical and vocational education.

The visit was a valuable learning experience that broadened the students' perspectives and inspired them to explore their talents, interests and potential in preparation for their future.

At The Nyeri National Polytechnic, we remain committed to partnering with schools to nurture skills, inspire careers and transform the futures of young people through practical and competency-based education.

From classroom knowledge to practical skills, and from skills to careers the journey to a brighter future begins with exposure and inspiration.
