The English Language-Based Master of Law (ELBML) Program at the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE), in collaboration with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) and the University of South-East Asia (USEA), is pleased to organize a workshop on “Advancing Responsible Business Conduct Through Case-Based Learning: From Development to Classroom Practice.”
The workshop forms part of a broader RBC case-study initiative jointly developed by ELBML, RWI, and CamEd Business School to strengthen practice-oriented legal and business education in Cambodia through locally grounded, interdisciplinary, and case-based learning approaches.
The session will share experiences and lessons learned from the development, piloting, and classroom integration of the Amru Rice and Biofuel case studies, including how these teaching materials have been incorporated into courses on Business and Human Rights (BHR), ESG, corporate governance and compliance, and environmental law and compliance at ELBML and partner universities in Phnom Penh.
Importantly, the workshop will also feature presentations by ELBML students, who will present their own RBC-related case studies developed through the BHR course. Their work reflects how case-based learning can help students move beyond theory to critically analyse real-world governance, sustainability, and human-rights-related business challenges in Cambodia while strengthening research, analytical, and practical problem-solving skills.
Prior to the workshop, ELBML students and faculty members will undertake a field study visit to Amru Rice’s Kampong Thom branch. The visit aims to provide students with firsthand exposure to ESG governance, contract farming practices, sustainability compliance, and responsible business conduct in Cambodia’s agribusiness sector. By linking classroom learning with direct industry engagement, the field study is designed to deepen students’ understanding of both the opportunities and practical challenges surrounding RBC implementation, sustainability governance, and international compliance expectations in real business settings.
Through faculty exchange, student engagement, field-based learning, and practical discussion, the workshop aims to contribute to the growing use of interdisciplinary and case-based teaching approaches in Cambodian higher education while fostering stronger connections between legal education, business practice, and sustainability governance.
