NUM Social Innovation Lab

The NUM Social Innovation Lab is part of the EU funded South-East Asian Social Innovation Network (SEASIN) with additional support being provided by SMART.

The NUM Social Innovation Lab is part of the EU funded South-East Asian Social Innovation Network (SEASIN) with additional support being provided by SMART Axiata. The Social Innovation Lab serves as both a space for seminars and interactive workshops on topics related to social innovation and entrepreneurship and also as an incubator to help develop and launch new social ventures. While the primar

y target is university students, the NUM Social Innovation Lab is also open to the wider social enterprise community. A maker space will also be available within the Social Innovation Lab so that students and outside community members can work to develop physical prototypes via the use of 3D printers. The NUM Social Innovation Lab will also serve as the main training venue for the National Business Model Competition which is an annual entrepreneurship competition open to all university students in Cambodia and focusing on startup ideas related to the following 5 sectors: Technology, Medical / Health Care, Education, Agriculture and General Business. The National Business Model Competition is also affiliated with the regional Mekong Challenge, which was launched in 2006 in partnership with the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company, and also the International Business Model Competition in the U.S.

A huge thank you to Ms. Eilish Mccarthy, Professor and Director of the Master’s in Sustainable Tourism at Griffith College, Ireland, for joining us online yesterday! Her inspiring and insightful talk on Ireland’s sustainable tourism landscape provided such invaluable perspectives for our BMC teams, who are currently working on their own innovative solutions for Cambodian tourism with the aim of making it sustainable for the community.

As part of the Innovation for Sustainable Development course led by Ms. Thiny Tep, NUM Social Innovation Lab organized a field trip to Kampot and Koh Seh for Year 1 Global Entrepreneurship & Innovation students. This allowed our students to gain firsthand insights into the coastal environment from experts at Marine Conservation Cambodia (MCC)—a community-based NGO focused on ecosystem preservation and also to learn more about local efforts within the mangrove community.

NUM Social Innovation Lab recently welcomed two faculty members and four Japanese students from the University of Fukui 🇯🇵. During their visit, they joined classes at NUM International College and experienced firsthand how learning and collaboration take place at our university.

This visit is part of the ongoing partnership between the National University of Management and the University of Fukui, supporting an annual exchange program that allows students from both institutions to study in Japan or Cambodia for a semester. ✈️📚

We were pleased to officially launch the NUM International College 6th Intake Master’s Class in Global Innovation Management at Raffles Le Royal Hotel in Phnom Penh yesterday evening.

A very special thank you to H.E. Dominic Williams, UK Ambassador to Cambodia, for delivering a keynote address on the UK’s dynamic innovation ecosystem 🇬🇧. His insights into entrepreneurship, technology, and trade provided inspiration for our new cohort.

Our students appreciated the interactive discussion and the opportunity to engage directly on innovation, trade, and global opportunity.
