We had an outstanding afternoon at Handong International Law School! We were honored to host Eleonor Fernandez, a Human Rights Officer from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Seoul, for a highly engaging lecture titled: “Justice from a Distance: Remote Monitoring & Evidence.”

Ms. Fernandez shared her extensive expertise on how international organizations assess human rights violations in closed regimes like the DPRK. Our PIL and undergraduate law students learned about the fascinating, real-world application of remote fact-finding methods—including satellite imagery, open-source intelligence, and the careful evaluation of witness testimony.

It is always a privilege when senior practitioners travel to our campus to engage with our students about the practical and legal challenges of international accountability work.

We are so grateful for her time, her thought-provoking insights, and her dedication to international justice.
