The Center for Global Social Responsibility (CGSR) was launched in May 2011 with the mission of advancing research, learning and engagement aimed at promoting global social responsibility. Global social responsibility refers to the accountability of all organizations to care for all of the stakeholders affected by their operations in a global community. With sustainable development moving up the g
lobal agenda, promoting social responsibility of corporations, governments, communities, and citizens has become a major challenge facing today’s increasingly globalized world. So far, the CGSR has been carrying out inter-disciplinary research on corporate social responsibility (CSR), development cooperation, social enterprises, and public-private partnerships (PPPs) and has also been establishing partnerships with universities and research institutes in Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. The CGSR published a research report on global CSR commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in December 2011 and has participated in a number of international seminars and forums held in Korea, Indonesia, and the United States. As a director of CGSR, I am currently participating in the research project on “Social Capital, Democratic Governance, and Corporate Social Responsibility” which is one of Ewha’s Global Top 5 Projects organized by the IITC. The CGSR is dedicated to grooming future leaders with a global mindset rooted in social responsibility principles. The members of CGSR have organized study groups and seminars for students and practitioners on a range of themes. It is my hope that the CGSR will provide a platform for learning, dialogue and innovation among students, researchers and practitioners in this newly emerging field.
