Our fourth math talk of the semester will be held on Wednesday, July 08, 2026.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Rusiru Gambheera Arachchi, Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara (BSc Mathematics Honours, University of Colombo; PhD, University of California, San Diego), who will deliver a talk on:
"Equivariant Main Conjectures in Iwasawa Theory"
Iwasawa theory sits at the crossroads of number theory and arithmetic geometry, studying deep connections between algebraic objects and special values of L-functions. The talk will explore the equivariant main conjectures, a central theme in this rich and active area.

Our third math talk of the semester will be held on Monday, July 06, 2026.
We are delighted to welcome Pasindu Kalhara Epa, a PhD student at the University of Cincinnati, USA (BSc Mathematics Honours, University of Colombo), who will deliver a talk on:
"The Gromov–Hausdorff Convergence"
Sometimes it is useful to think of a "space of metric spaces," treating two spaces as equivalent when they are isometric. The talk will introduce the Hausdorff distance between closed and bounded subsets of a metric space, show how this leads to the Gromov–Hausdorff distance on compact metric spaces, and conclude with the Gromov Compactness Theorem, a fundamental result in the theory of Gromov–Hausdorff convergence.
