මහාචාර්‍ය කටුපොත මහතා පිලිබද ශිෂ්‍යයෙකුගේ සටහනක්

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ භූගෝල විද්‍යා ක්ෂේත්‍රයට අමිල ශාස්ත්‍රීය මෙහෙවරක් ඉටුකළ, ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ භූගෝල විද්‍යා අංශයේ සම්මානිත මහාචාර්යවරයකු වූ මහාචාර්ය ජිනදාස කටුපොත මහතාගේ අභාවය පිළිබඳ සාතිශය සංවේගය පළ කරමි
භූරූප විද්‍යාව, වෙරළබඩ පරිසර පද්ධති, මුහුදු මට්ටමේ වෙනස්වීම්, පරිසර අධ්‍යයන, භූ-පුරාවිද්‍යාව සහ භූ සංචාරක විද්‍යාව ඇතුළු විවිධ ක්ෂේත්‍ර ඔස්සේ සිදු කළ එතුමාගේ පර්යේෂණ හා ශාස්ත්‍රීය කටයුතු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ භූගෝල විද්‍යා අධ්‍යයනයේ වර්ධනයට වැදගත් දායකත්වයක් සපයා ඇත.

දශක ගණනාවක් පුරා විශ්වවිද්‍යාලීය අධ්‍යාපනය හා පර්යේෂණයට කැප වූ එතුමා, ශිෂ්‍ය පරපුරකට සහ පර්යේෂකයන් රැසකට දැනුම හා මඟපෙන්වීම ලබා දුන් ගුරුවරයෙකු ද විය. විද්‍යාත්මක දැනුම සමාජය වෙත ගෙන යමින් පරිසරය, භූමි සම්පත් සහ ස්වාභාවික පද්ධති පිළිබඳ අවබෝධය වර්ධනය කිරීමට ද එතුමා දායක විය.

පුත්තලම අරුවක්කාළු මයෝසීන හුණු ගල් කැණීම් භූමියේ පැරණි මිණුම් කුළුණ පිහිටි ස්ථානයේ නිරවුල් පාංශු තැන්පතුව ඉදිරි පර්යේෂණ සඳහා ආරක්ෂා කිරීමට එතුමා දැක්වූ උනන්දුව සහ කැපවීම ඉමහත්ය.

එතුමාගේද දායකත්වයෙන් එම කුළුණ පරිශ්‍රය පුරාවිද්‍යා ආඥා පනත යටතේ පුරාවිද්‍යා ස්මාරකයක් සහිත ස්ථානයක් වශයෙන් ප්‍රකාශයට පත්කිරීමට හැකි වුවද පසුව එම කුළුණ ඉවත්කර මයෝසීන ෆොසිල තැන්පතුව කඩා ඉවත්කිරීමට සිමෙන්ති නිෂ්පාදන සමාගමකට අනුමැතිය ලබාදීම පිළිබඳව පසුගිය දිනවල එතුමා දැඩි කණස්සල්ලෙන් පසුවිය.

2009 වසරේ සිට ජෛව විවිධත්ව ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ පුරාජෛව විවිධත්ව උපදේශක කමිටුවේ සාමාජිකයෙකු වශයෙන් එතුමා සමග කටයුතු කිරීමට ලැබීම මා ලද භාග්‍යයකි.

පුත්තලම අරුවක්කාළු මයෝසීන තැන්පතුවට ආසන්නව පිහිටි ගොඩැලි බිම් පිළිබඳව ඒකාබද්ධ පර්යේෂණ පත්‍රිකාවක් මා වැනි භූ පුරාවිද්‍යාවට ආධුනිකයකු සමග එක්ව ලිවීමට තරම් එතුමා නිහතමානී විය.

මාගේ දර්ශනපති උපාධි නිබන්ධයේ උපදේශකයකු වශයෙන් මා හට ලබාදුන් දැනුම සහ ශාස්ත්‍රීය ලිවීමක ශික්ෂණය පිළිබඳ සිදුකල ප්‍රායෝගික අභ්‍යාස නොවන්නට එම නිබන්ධය ලිවීමට බොහෝ කලක් ගතවනු ඇත.

මහාචාර්ය ජිනදාස කටුපොත මහතාගේ වියෝව ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ භූගෝල විද්‍යා හා පර්යේෂණ ක්ෂේත්‍රයට පමණක් නොව, එතුමාගෙන් දැනුම හා මඟපෙන්වීම ලැබූ ශිෂ්‍යයන්, සහෝදර විද්වතුන් සහ සමීපතමයන් සියලු දෙනාටම පිරිමැසිය නොහැකි පාඩුවකි.

එතුමා විසින් ශාස්ත්‍රීය ලෝකයට දායාද කළ දැනුමත්, පර්යේෂණ උරුමයත් සදා අනුස්මරණීය වනුඇත.

Deepest Sympathy

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Jinadasa Katupotha, a respected academic, scholar, and teacher whose contributions to education, knowledge, and society will always be remembered.

Our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, students, and all those who were touched by his life and work.

His funeral will be held at Borella Cemetery on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
