What happens to innovation when AI can do more, faster?

Last week at TRACE Expert City, AI Academy × Tomorrow University brought together some of the region’s leading voices in innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and education to explore one of the defining questions of our time:

In an AI-powered world, what makes us uniquely human?

We were joined by Christian Rebernik, Co-Founder & CEO of Tomorrow University, alongside Linda Speldewinde, Founder & Chairperson of AI Academy & AOD, and Lin Gong-Deutschmann, AI investor, Heminda Jayaweera, Executive Director of TRACE and advisor and Yasas Hewage, Chairman of the Industrial Development Board (IDB).

The conversation explored how innovation ecosystems are built, how education needs to evolve, and what it takes to prepare the next generation to lead in a world reshaped by AI.

Moderated by Shivantha Meepage, Founder of sixn.ai, the discussion went beyond technology to the things that will matter even more in the years ahead: creativity, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, adaptability and the ability to turn ideas into impact.

An exciting week full of energy at AI Academy!

We brought together AOD’s Design Alumni and trailblazers from across industries to explore what the shift to AI means for their careers, creativity and the future of work.

“An Introduction to the AI Economy” with entrepreneur and Tomorrow University Founder Christian Rebernik, who shared his journey of building and scaling digital ventures and offered a glimpse into the opportunities emerging in the AI economy.

Joined by Hash Kaylab Bandara, Kayleb Bandara is a social designer turned tech entrepreneur who moved from Sri Lanka to Paris on a French Tech Talent Passport. Chethya Munasinghe, a design, creative and strategy consultant, researcher and educator whose work spans brand strategy, visual communication, creative direction and design-led innovation and Ruth Weerasinghe, a fashion designer and design innovation specialist whose work bridges sustainability, technology and apparel design. Who brought their own industry perspectives to this important conversation.

For designers, the next decade presents a choice: adapt, evolve and lead, or risk being left behind. The conversation was about more than AI. It was about the future of creativity, careers and the opportunities waiting on the other side of change.
