🌿🔬 Department of Plant Sciences Takes Science Beyond the University 🎓🧪
Demonstrators from the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Colombo, participated in two school science exhibitions held in September 2026 at St. Thomas’ Preparatory College, Colombo 03, on 14th and 15th September, and Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, on 17th and 18th September.
The exhibitions featured a range of science based displays, demonstrations, and interactive activities covering areas such as Microbiology 🦠, Horticulture 🌱, Molecular Biology 🧬, and Plant Sciences 🌿.
The activities provided school students with opportunities to explore scientific concepts through engaging and interactive experiences while encouraging them to ask questions , observe 👀, and think critically 💡. The exhibits also enabled students to connect classroom learning with practical applications of science and gain a broader understanding of diverse fields within the life sciences. 🌱🧬
The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Nadeema Dharmasiri, Dr. Vihara Kaluthanthri and Mr Supun Pawuluwage, in collaboration with the demonstrators of the Department of Plant Sciences. 👩🔬👨🔬 Through these outreach activities, the Department contributed to strengthening school-university engagement promoting science education beyond the classroom , and creating meaningful opportunities for young learners to develop an interest in science and scientific inquiry. 🔬🌿✨
