Sri Lanka Shines Again at the 20th SAESM – Kathmandu, Nepal
The 20th South Asian Economics Students’ Meet (SAESM) was held from 15–20 November 2025 in Kathmandu, Nepal, under the theme “Addressing Risks and Vulnerabilities in South Asia: Path to Economic Resilience.” Organized by the Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University, together with the Nepal Economic Association, this prestigious regional event brought together the brightest young economists from across South Asia.
This year, Sri Lanka was proudly represented by 10 students, and as usual our Team Sri Lanka continued the proud tradition of excellence. Out of the 10 students, 7 represented Department of Economics, University of Colombo, reaffirming our strong academic presence in the region. Their research and dedication have made us proud at SAESM 2025.
- Mr. Hasitha Weragoda won the Best Research Paper Award under the theme Environmental Degradation and Natural Resources.
- Ms. Batya Peter secured first place in the Policy Discussion Competition under the theme Economics of Climate Change and South Asia.
Once again, Sri Lankan students showcased exceptional talent and research strength on a South Asian platform. Congratulations to Team Sri Lanka for their remarkable achievements and we wish you all the best for your future.
