The session provided our students with valuable knowledge and practical insights into maintaining a safe and healthy environment in their future professional lives.

𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐛

Our department hosted the Sakura and Serendib event in collaboration with undergraduates from the University of Colombo and Fukuoka Women’s University. The event was filled with engaging activities, including musical performances, a cultural segment, and a fun field game of musical chairs. Adding further value to the event, Prof. Thilakshi Kodagoda delivered an insightful session on psychological capital, emphasizing the importance of positive psychological resources.

The event helped strengthen our network with Prof. Jayasena Pathmasiri and five undergraduates from Fukuoka Women’s University, while creating unforgettable memories and lasting friendships. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. Thilakshi Kodagoda, all the academic and non-academic staff members, and the undergraduates of our department for the hard work and commitment in making this event a success.

𝐃𝐇𝐑𝐌 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔/𝟐𝟕 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 – 𝐈𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲

The Department of Human Resources Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, successfully inaugurated the DHRM 2026/27 Online Programme on 18 September 2026, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. via Zoom.

The occasion marked the beginning of a new academic and professional journey for our new DHRM students.

The inauguration was graced by Professor Nihal Hennayake, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, as the Chief Guest, together with Dr. Rajitha Silva, Head of the Department of Human Resources Management, lecturers of the Department and Faculty, academic support and non-academic staff.

We were also pleased to have Mr. Ruwin Yapa, Group Head of Human Resources, Thema Collection – Resorts and Spas, who shared valuable professional insights with our students, and Mr. Neran Udawatta, a former student of the DHRM programme, who shared his reflections and experiences.

A warm welcome to the DHRM 2026/27 students and wishing you a rewarding journey filled with learning, growth and professional success as you begin your journey with the Department of Human Resources Management, University of Colombo.

𝐀 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

We are delighted to share an important milestone for the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo.

At today’s Faculty Board meeting, the proposal to establish the Professor W. M. Jayaratne Gold Medal for the Most Outstanding Performance in Organizational Behaviour was formally approved, with the Faculty Board confirming that the initiative should proceed to the Legislation Committee and thereafter to the Senate for approval.

This proposed annual gold medal will honour Professor W. M. Jayaratne, widely regarded as the founding father of the Faculty of Management and Finance and a pioneer of management education in Sri Lanka.

The initiative carries a particularly meaningful connection to Leadership with Soul – A Global CEO Engagement, featuring Mr. André Lacroix, Global CEO of Intertek. Intertek’s generous contribution of LKR 500,000 towards the programme is now being transformed into a lasting academic legacy—one that will continue to recognize outstanding student achievement for generations to come.

Rather than allowing a contribution to end with a single event, the Faculty is creating something that will live beyond the event itself: a permanent symbol of scholarship, leadership, professional integrity and academic excellence.

The proposed medal will recognize an undergraduate student who demonstrates the most outstanding performance in Organizational Behaviour, subject to the relevant University regulations and approvals.

This is more than a medal.

It is a tribute to a visionary academic.
It is an investment in future generations.
And it is a reminder that true leadership leaves a legacy.

We look forward to taking the next steps through the University’s formal approval process and, in due course, celebrating the first recipient of the Professor W. M. Jayaratne Gold Medal.

𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬

A guest session on Stress Management and Mindfulness was organized for the second-year undergraduates of our department as part of the Personality Development Course. The session was conducted by Ms. Neranjala Nishani Mendis, Psychological Counsellor, who brings expertise in psychology, counselling, education, and music.

The session provided students with practical approaches to cope with stress encountered in their academic journey and personal lives. Through music therapy and practical exercises, students explored mindfulness, strengthened their emotional resilience, and enhanced their spiritual wellbeing. The interactive session also motivated students to face life challenges with greater confidence and positivity.

We express our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Neranjala Nishani Mendis for conducting this interesting session for our undergraduates.
