The Automobile Engineering Training Institute (AETI) is a National level training institute established in November 1989 by a grant aid from the Government of Japan at a cost of Rs. 500 million (Jpy 2.016 billion) and functions under purview of National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) which is under the MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS. The institute is managed by a 8- member Governi
ng Council approved by the NAITA with the concurrence of the MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS the Chairman of the NAITA as its Chairman and representatives from among the members of the NAITA, and representatives from the private sector involved in Automobile Engineering. The Institute has its own staff comprising a Director/Principal who is the head of the institute, Deputy Principals a Registrar an Accountant, Lecturers, Instructors, Clerical, Maintenance and other auxiliary staff. The institute maintains close co-ordination with the other industrial institutions on all matters related to manpower development and activities connected with automobile engineering. Training programmes conducted at the institute are formulated in consultation with industry in order to ensure that the trainees will meet the skilled manpower requirements of the Automobile Industry, which provides on–the-job training facilities for the trainees recruited to the institute. The institute plays a major role in the skills upgrading of the employees engaged in the automobile industry by introducing modern technology through skills upgrading programmes.
