DEMV undertakes a broad range of professional course which are accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors UK (RICS) and The Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka (IVSL). The B.Sc. Estate Management and Valuation (Special) Degree Programme caters to three disciplines; Real Estate Valuation, Property Management and Urban and Regional Planning. DEMV also offers Postgraduate Diploma and Ma

Thus, the department produces qualified professionals for regional and global engagement in the Real Estate Industry through its undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. DEMV is committed to creating outstanding students in an academic environment. Students’ Clubs and the Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES) allows students to explore knowledge and excel in their skills and capabilities. Partnerships with both local and global professional organizations provide opportunities for the students to expand their knowledge and professional competencies. With this milestone, the 2020/21 Batch has now completed all academic requirements of the B.Sc. (Honours) in Real Estate Management and Valuation degree.

The Independent Research Report reflects the students’ ability to apply research methods, critical thinking, and discipline-specific knowledge to address real-world issues in real estate and valuation.

Evaluation of the Real Estate Project – Third Year Undergraduates

The Department of Estate Management and Valuation successfully concluded the Real Estate Project of the third-year undergraduates, conducted under the guidance and supervision of the academic staff of the Department.

This year’s project focused on Experience Tourism, with Anuradhapura selected as the case study area. Seven student groups actively participated in the project, presenting diverse and innovative proposals on how Anuradhapura could be developed and positioned as a unique experience tourism destination.

We are pleased to note the valuable engagement of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), with the senior management team participating in the evaluation process and providing professional insights on the students’ work. Their involvement greatly enhanced the practical and industry relevance of the project.

The project was coordinated by Snr. Prof. K. G. P. K. Weerakoon, whose leadership and guidance were instrumental in the successful completion of this academic exercise.

Congratulations to all students and staff for their commitment and outstanding efforts in delivering a meaningful, practice-oriented learning experience.

The Department of Estate Management and Valuation is pleased to announce the successful completion of the RICS re-accreditation review of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Real Estate Management and Valuation and the M.Sc. in Real Estate Management and Valuation degree programmes.

The re-accreditation visit included a comprehensive tour of facilities, covering key learning resources, laboratories, and specialised facilities, including relevant hardware and software that support programme delivery. The University presentation highlighted our continued collaboration with RICS, actions taken since the previous accreditation visit and External Examiner recommendations, strong industry engagement, quality assurance mechanisms, assessment methodologies, and initiatives to ensure inclusivity and diversity.

The review process involved programme mapping discussions with programme leads and tutors, meetings with students, employers, and teaching staff, and the review of graded examination scripts, theses, course projects, and academic papers. Separate breakout sessions were conducted for relevant pathways, followed by a private panel meeting.

We are pleased to share that the review outcomes are expected to be received soon.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our industry partners, stakeholders, students of both programmes, visiting staff, and academic staff for their valuable cooperation and support throughout this important process.

The RCB Club of the Department of Estate Management and Valuation, in collaboration with REMV CREW – the students’ association – successfully organised the Landmark Competition, the flagship project of the Club. This remarkable event has emerged as the premier inter-university documentary competition, proudly hosted by the RCB Club of the Department of Estate Management and Valuation, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The awards ceremony took place at Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams on 24th October 2025, where the winning teams were celebrated.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the team from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University for securing both First and Second Places, and to the students of the B.Sc. Real Estate Management and Valuation programme, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, for earning Third Place in the competition. The Department of Estate Management and Valuation successfully organised a student engagement session on RICS Pathways, with a special focus on the Valuation and Commercial Real Estate pathways. The session was conducted by the RICS APAC team in collaboration with RICS Sri Lanka and RICS MEG Sri Lanka.

Final-year students of the B.Sc. Honours in Real Estate Management and Valuation, along with the academic members of the Department of Estate Management and Valuation, attended this interactive and insightful session.

We welcomed and appreciated the presence and contribution of Dr. D. Prathapasinghe, Chairman of RICS Sri Lanka; Mr. Tharaka Weragoda, Chairman – RICS MEG Sri Lanka; Mr. Ashwani Awasthi, Managing Director – RICS South Asia; Ms. Aarti Anthony, Candidate & Early Years Engagement Specialist – RICS; Ms. Sheetal Aneja, Member Engagement Lead – APAC, RICS; and Ms. Archana Dutt, Senior Manager – Early Years and Candidate Engagement.

The academic session and undergraduate poster session of the International Conference on Real Estate Management and Valuation were held at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura under the patronage of Prof. Dushan Jayewickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce. Two parallel sessions were conducted, featuring a series of research papers presented under the designated conference tracks.

Plenary speeches were delivered by Dr. Ahmad Fawwaz Ahmad Saleh of Universiti Malaya on “Rethinking Affordable Housing for Sustainable Urban Growth and Living” and Dr. Zairul Nisham Bin Musa on “An Overview of Key Transformative Trends in the Real Estate Industry.”

The two parallel sessions were chaired by Dr. Zairul Nisham Bin Musa and Rtd. Prof. J. Edirisinghe, and by Dr. Ahmad Fawwaz Ahmad Saleh and Mr. E. M. R. U. B. Dorakumbura.

The undergraduate poster session was reviewed by Prof. Rohini Samarasinghe, Prof. G. D. N. Perera, and Ms. Indu Weerasooriya. Final-year students of the B.Sc. Honours in Real Estate Management Studies and Commerce presented their research posters, showcasing innovative ideas and insightful findings across key areas of real estate management and valuation.
