𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐨 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥🚢⚓️

The Colombo East Container Terminal (CECT) has reached a major operational milestone with the commissioning of its third berth, marking a new phase of scale and efficiency at the Port of Colombo.

The occasion drew senior representatives from leading global carriers including Maersk, CMA CGM and MSC reaffirming strong carrier confidence in Colombo’s reliability, productivity and growing technical capabilities.

Despite operating with partial infrastructure, CECT handled over 500,000 TEUs in 2025. With the third berth now in service and full jetty construction scheduled for completion by mid February the terminal is set to operate at full capacity targeting an ambitious 1.5 million TEUs within the year.
This development further strengthens Colombo’s position as a key transshipment hub for the Indian Subcontinent, Bay of Bengal and East–West trade routes, while delivering tangible economic benefits through foreign exchange earnings, employment and enhanced trade connectivity.
