National Research Council of Sri Lanka NRC is a state funding agency in Sri Lanka established by an act of parliament in 2016.

The National Research Council of Sri Lanka (NRC) is a premier funding agency tasked with fostering and supporting scientific and technological research in the country. Established as a statutory body in 2016 by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the NRC is dedicated to building a robust and dynamic scientific community in Sri Lanka. The NRC provides financial assista

nce to public sector scientists to facilitate cutting-edge research in science and technology. This is aimed at promoting and supporting research activities in higher educational institutions and public sector research institutes, as well as other governmental institutes, to help build a strong research foundation that contributes to the nation's needs. In addition to supporting public sector scientists, the NRC also endeavors to seek the cooperation of the private sector in enhancing research initiatives in science and technology. By fostering collaboration and teamwork between the public and private sectors, the NRC aims to further enhance the growth of scientific research in Sri Lanka. Overall, the NRC plays a critical role in promoting and supporting scientific research in Sri Lanka, and is dedicated to advancing the nation's scientific and technological capabilities for a brighter future.

In 2022, the National Research Council (NRC) received a total of 132 research proposals for funding consideration. From this pool of submissions, 21 research proposals were selected for funding. Subsequently, on December 15th, 2022, a total of 17 investigator driven research projects were granted by the Council.
