Stakeholders’ Meeting of the Department of Indigenous Health Sciences: A Successful Collaboration for the Future of Yoga, Tourism, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems that Inspire Global Wellness.

The Department of Indigenous Health Sciences, Faculty of Indigenous Health Sciences and Technology, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, proudly organized its Stakeholders' Meeting on August 16, 2025, at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo 07.

The event was a resounding success, featuring the active involvement of key stakeholders from both the industrial and governmental sectors, representing the domains of Tourism and Hospitality, as well as Yoga and Parapsychology.

Together, we engaged in productive discussions on:

🔹 Enhancing and aligning curricula with industry requirements
🔹 Identifying career pathways for future graduates
🔹 Fostering partnerships for internships, training, and collaborative research initiatives

This meeting represented a crucial advancement in fortifying the relationship between academia and industry, ensuring that our degree programmes, BSc (Hons.) in Yoga and Parapsychology and BSc (Hons.) in Health Tourism and Hospitality Management, continue to be innovative, relevant, and impactful.

Clear academic writing begins with a solid foundation, and that’s exactly what students gained at the final workshop in the workshop series, hosted by the Department of Indigenous Health Sciences, for the 3rd-year undergraduate students of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Health Tourism & Hospitality Management and B.Sc. (Hons) in Yoga & Parapsychology degree programmes.

Led by Dr. Kamalika Jayathilaka, the session focused on essential skills in crafting abstracts and managing citations with accuracy and confidence. From understanding structure to avoiding common pitfalls, students were introduced to practical strategies to elevate the quality of their academic writing.

The Department of Indigenous Health Sciences successfully conducted a valuable and thought-provoking workshop on 28th July 2025, titled “Polish Your Professionalism: Essential Soft Skills for the Workplace.” This session aimed to develop the key soft skills that are essential for success in today’s professional world.

The workshop was led by Mr. Sisitha Rajapaksha, Head of the Department of Management Studies, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, who provided insightful guidance on communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and professional conduct. His expertise and engaging delivery helped students understand how to navigate workplace challenges with confidence and competence.

The Department of Indigenous Health Sciences successfully conducted an insightful workshop titled "Developing Critical Thinking for Academic and Life Success” on the 24th of July 2025 for the 1st-year undergraduate students of the department.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sisitha Rajapaksha, Head of the Department, Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.
He explained that developing critical thinking is a foundational skill that supports academic excellence, effective decision-making, and lifelong learning. By fostering this skill, individuals are better equipped to navigate complex information and challenges in various aspects of life.

Successfully completed – Workshop on “Effective Time Management as an Undergraduate”

The Department of Indigenous Health Sciences successfully conducted an insightful workshop titled "Effective Time Management as an Undergraduate” on the 18th of July 2025 for the 1st-year undergraduate students of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Health Tourism & Hospitality Management and B.Sc. (Hons) in Yoga & Parapsychology degree programmes.
The workshop was conducted by Prof. Rangana Shalika, Professor in Tourism Management in the Department of Tourism Management, Faculty of Management Studies, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
He explained that effective time management enables students to allocate sufficient time for studying, which can lead to improved grades and a deeper understanding of the course material. By prioritizing tasks and sticking to a schedule, students can avoid last-minute rushing and minimize errors in their work.

🎯 Successfully Held – Workshop on “Building Leadership Through Team-Based Learning”
The Department of Indigenous Health Sciences successfully conducted an insightful workshop titled "Building Leadership Through Team-Based Learning" on the 15th of July 2025 for the 1st-year undergraduate students of the department.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. A. H. N. De Zoysa, Lecturer at the Department of Indigenous Health Sciences, Faculty of Indigenous Health Sciences and Technology, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.
This interactive session focused on developing leadership qualities through collaborative, team-based tasks, encouraging students to build trust, take initiative, and strengthen their problem-solving and communication skills in group settings.
We sincerely thank Dr. A. H. N. De Zoysa for facilitating this engaging workshop and appreciate the active involvement of our students in making it a meaningful learning experience.

🎉 Wrapped Up Successfully – Workshop on “Enhancing English Fluency Through Interactive Activities”
The Department of Indigenous Health Sciences successfully conducted a valuable workshop titled "Enhancing English Fluency Through Interactive Activities" on the 14th of July 2025 for the 1st-year undergraduate students of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Health Tourism & Hospitality Management and B.Sc. (Hons) in Yoga & Parapsychology degree programmes.
Two dynamic resource persons facilitated the session:

✨ Mrs. Prabhani Manthrirathna – Lecturer, University of Sri Jayewardenepura
Designed with hands-on engagement, the workshop aimed to strengthen students' English fluency and communication skills through fun, interactive learning methods. The energy and enthusiasm of the students made the session truly impactful.
