John Bosco’s College

The period before Sri Lanka got her Independence, British rulers governed this Island. Even though they are foreigners, we should not forget the fact that English, the international Language was introduced by them in the Education system. The drawback at the moment was, each and everybody couldn't get this Education due to lack of facilities. John Bosco SSJ Missionary Rev. Br

others came forward to render their Education Service to all considering this as a Service to God. They quenched the thirst of voracious people who were longing for Education. Hyde who came to the hill country, came across the younger generation who had no way of getting any kind of education. He determined to serve them and started his own Primary English School with only twenty students in the name of St. John Bosco. When time flies away the great effort of Rev. Hyde gained the recognition from the Government. No doubt, the most appreciated St. John Bosco’s College started flourishing. When the number of students was increasing, Rev. Hyde wanted a batter prospectus for the school and handed over it to the Catholic Mission in 1934. Rev. Bro. Aloysious and then Rev. David SSJ became the pioneers of the school. Brothers extended their services to the estates in order to make the young steers walk along the lighted path of Education. As a reward to their effort, students have started to join the school in numbers. So began the deficiency in accommodation. Clement SSJ build the main Hall as well as and upstairs to solve the problems. Also did his duties as a devoted Principal. In 1937, Rev. Clement was transferred and Rev. Benjamin took over. It was really the Golden period in the history of St. John Bosco’s college. It was blooming in each and every field. After Rev. Benjamin, in 1947 Rev. Chrysostom SSJ took charge of the school. His school administration was very much appreciated and advanced Level (Arts) classes commenced during his period. Government took over the school in 1962. After that the number of students in the A/L classes dropped up which resulted in closing the A/L classes.
1965 to 1972 were the years when Rev. Jerome Thomas was the Principal. The school was functioning extremely well during this period too. Following him. S. A. Francis SSJ appointed as principal in 1973. Mr. Bernard Gunasekera and Mr. Nesadurai followed him in 1974. K.K Paramjothy took over the administration in 1975 and served till 1976. Then Mr. N. Sri Pushpanathan in 1977 and Mr. Thiruchenthuran in 1978 became Principals. Again in the year 1979, the administration of St. John Bosco’s was shared by two principals Mr. V. sumathipala and Mr. P.A Sebastian. Krishan took charge of the school in the later part of 1979 and performed his duties as Principal till 1982. K.P .Mayawatharam took over in 1982 and served till 1984 and Mr. V.Vincent took charge in 1984 and continued his service till and thereafter Mr.Crooze took charge the school in the year ---- and up to now he is servicing as Principal of St. John Bosco’s College. It is our everlasting prayer that the glory of the college should bloom up day by day for ever for which the OBA is also dedicated to serve. Geographical Location of the College:

Heres to the blue, White and Maroon
The School that we love so well:
Ring in her glory. Ring in her story. As only those who love her can tell. Here among the tea clad hills
Verdant vales and sparking rills
Virtue Labour both we find
Shining lights for hearts and mind. O St. Boscos, here we pray
Help us to be pure each day,
To be truthful, cheerful, kind
Helpful towards all man kind. Guide our footsteps while we go
Down lifes highway: light the glow
of true knowledge in our life:
Keep us safe sin and strife. Teach us the years to be
How to live in amity:
Make us true aposite too
Helpful Citizens, and true. Let these tea clad hills proclaim
In melodious notes her fame
To the school that we love so dear
Raise our notes of Joyful cheer!
