The Institute of Technology University of Moratuwa (ITUM) is delighted to announce the upcoming 5th International Research Conference of ITUM (ITUMIRC 2026), scheduled to take place on 05th November 2026 at the Institute of Technology University of Moratuwa (ITUM) in Diyagama, Homagama. This year’s conference, organized by the ITUM Research Unit, is centered around the theme: “Engineering & Technology in Times of Uncertainty: Preserving Human Values and Cultural Heritage During Global Conflicts”

The conference aims to provide an international platform for academics, researchers, professionals and post graduate students to present and discuss innovative research findings, emerging technologies, and contemporary challenges across multidisciplinary fields.

𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐤 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – 𝐈𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐥

In celebration of the sacred Vesak Festival, the ITUM Staff Welfare Society organized a Vesak Ice Cream Dansal on 14th May 2025 at 11:30 AM in front of the Administration Building of the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM).

This charitable initiative was made possible through the generous contributions of Ex-Co members of the Staff Welfare Society and external well-wishers, reflecting the spirit of giving and compassion that defines Vesak. The Dansal created a joyful and welcoming atmosphere within the ITUM premises.

Staff members, students, and visitors alike enjoyed the refreshing treat, sharing in the happiness and unity that such events bring. The initiative not only provided refreshment but also strengthened the sense of community and togetherness among all who participated.

The Vesak Ice Cream Dansal stands as a meaningful expression of generosity and goodwill, truly embodying the essence of the Vesak season.

𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚 & 𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – 𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐌

The ITUM Welfare Society proudly organized the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Morning Ceremony on 21st April 2025, bringing together the entire ITUM community in a joyful and culturally rich celebration. The event was graced by the presence of the Director of ITUM, Rtd. Major General Shantha Kumara Thirunavukarusu, along with all staff members.

The day commenced with religious observances at the Buddha statue within the ITUM premises, invoking blessings for the New Year. This was followed by the traditional milk boiling ceremony, symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings.

The formal proceedings began with a warm welcome address delivered by the President of the Welfare Society, Dr. Udara Bulathsinhala, setting a positive and festive tone for the day. The Director then addressed the gathering, extending his heartfelt New Year wishes to all staff members and appreciating the efforts of the organizing committee.

Following the formalities, a delightful New Year buffet was arranged, allowing everyone to enjoy traditional festive cuisine together in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The celebrations continued with the official commencement of the Awurudu Festival, starting with an energetic marathon held in front of the ITUM main building. Thereafter, a series of exciting and entertaining events took place at the ITUM grounds.

Among the highlights were the highly competitive and spirited games such as Kotta Pora (pillow fighting) and Kamba Adeema (tug of war), which drew enthusiastic participation. Adding to the fun and laughter were traditional games like Kana Mutti Bindeema (breaking the pot), Marking the Eye of the Elephant, Counting Papaw Seeds, and Bambara Divilla (top spinning)—all of which captivated the audience and brought smiles to everyone present.

In total, around 20 events were successfully conducted, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. The day concluded with a grand awards ceremony, where prizes were presented to individual winners and victorious teams, celebrating their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

This vibrant celebration truly reflected the spirit of unity, tradition, and joy, making it a memorable occasion for all members of the ITUM family.

𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 – 𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐌 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲

As part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM), the ITUM Welfare Society continued its multi-religious initiatives under the guidance of the Director of ITUM, Rtd. Major General S. K. Thirunavukarusu.

In this spirit, a religious visit to the Jumma Masjid, Maththegoda was organized on 30th December 2025 by ITUM staff welfare society, with the participation of ITUM staff members and NDT students. The event provided an opportunity for reflection, unity, and spiritual engagement within the diverse ITUM community.

During the visit, special afternoon prayers were conducted by two Moulavis, invoking blessings for peace, prosperity, and the continued success of ITUM, its leadership, staff, and students.

This observance further highlighted ITUM’s commitment to fostering religious harmony, mutual respect, and inclusivity, while commemorating the institution’s significant milestone of 25 years.
