🌱🔬 Guest Lecture on Applied Microbial Ecology

The Department of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized a guest lecture on “Applied Microbial Ecology: Methods Used in Soil Sciences” on 3rd September 2026.

The session was delivered by Dr. Daniel Blackburn, Associate Professor, Sultan Qaboos University, providing valuable insights into contemporary methods in microbial ecology and their applications in soil sciences.

The lecture offered an enriching academic experience, fostering knowledge sharing and exposure to current developments in soil and microbial sciences. 🌱🧫

🌏🤝 Strengthening International Collaboration in Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, was pleased to host a meeting with representatives of the University of Tokyo to explore opportunities for collaboration under the “Linking the University of Tokyo – Study in Japan Global Network Project.”

The meeting brought together Prof. Mitsuo Yamamoto and Prof. H. D. Karunaratne from the University of Tokyo, and Prof. Guththila Jayasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna.

The visit also included an informative seminar for final-year students of the Faculty of Agriculture, providing valuable insights into opportunities for higher education, research, and academic collaboration in Japan. 🇯🇵🎓

We look forward to developing stronger academic partnerships and creating new opportunities for our students and researchers.

Summer Internship Programme - 2026 🇱🇰🇴🇲

The Department of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, successfully coordinated a two-week international internship programme for undergraduate students from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, from 1st August to 15th August 2026, with the valuable support and contributions of all the departments of the Faculty of Agriculture.

🌱💧 The programme combined academic, laboratory, field, and industry-based learning in agricultural engineering, drone technology, water management, soil science, irrigation, and agro-processing, while promoting international academic and cultural exchange.

📢 A Landmark Step Towards Sustainable Value Addition in Sri Lanka's Cinnamon Industry

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna is pleased to share highlights from today's signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish Sri Lanka's first Zero-Waste Cinnamon Processing Center.

This significant initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna.

The state-of-the-art center will be established at the Faculty of Agriculture premises in Mapalana and is expected to revolutionize cinnamon processing by utilizing every part of the harvested cinnamon plant, transforming biomass residues into value-added products while minimizing waste.

This collaboration represents an important milestone in promoting sustainable agricultural innovation, advancing scientific research, and enhancing the commercialization of high-value Ceylon cinnamon products. It also reflects our continued commitment to supporting national development through research, technology, and industry partnerships.

We sincerely thank the Ministry of Science and Technology for its leadership and collaboration in this nationally significant initiative and look forward to the successful implementation of the project.

We are delighted to share highlights from the Undergraduate Mini Symposium on Agro-Meteorological Data Analysis and Climate Predictions 2026, organized by the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna. 🌱🌍

The symposium provided a platform for 3rd Year ARMT students to present their research and contribute towards climate-smart and data-driven agricultural solutions for a sustainable future.
