🎭 Lihiniya Soars on the Kelaniya Stage 🎭

The final practical production by the students of the Drama and Theatre Special Degree Programme of the Department of Drama, Cinema and Television at the University of Kelaniya was successfully staged on 9 May 2026 at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall on the university premises.

Titled 'Lihiniya', the production is a Sinhala adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, translated by Ariyarathna Vithana and creatively reimagined in a Sri Lankan cultural context. The entire production project was carried out under the supervision of Lecturer Sanjeewa Gunarathna and directed by Muditha Dissanayake.

The event was attended by Senior Professor Patrick Rathnayake, alongside senior academics, faculty members, parents, students, and distinguished veterans from the field of drama and theatre.

Step into the world of timeless celebrations and visual storytelling through a dynamic learning experience at the Diploma in Photography, offered by the Department of Drama, Cinema and Television, University of Kelaniya.

On 29th March 2026, students had the invaluable opportunity to engage with Guest Lecturer Rasanga Disanayake, a seasoned professional in the field of wedding photography. With years of industry experience, he brought real-world insight into the art and business of capturing life’s most cherished moments.

The session, centered on Wedding Photography, went beyond theory—blending creative vision with practical ex*****on. Students explored the nuances of storytelling, lighting, composition, and client interaction, all essential elements in crafting compelling wedding narratives.

What made this session truly impactful was its hands-on approach. Rasanga Disanayake conducted a practical demonstration, allowing students to directly experience professional techniques and workflows. His guidance provided clarity on how to transform emotional moments into powerful visual memories.

In addition, students actively presented their final exhibition proposals as groups, receiving constructive feedback that refined their creative direction. This collaborative environment encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and professional-level presentation skills.
