On "10.12.2018 "as the 6th Faculty of the Wayamba University and the 9th Faculty of Medicine in Sri Lanka, our Wayamba Medical Faculty was commenced with 72 students.
Prof. MD Lamawansa was the first Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Wayamba University, which was a concept of the former Vice Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor EMP Ekanayake.That concept of Faculty of Medicine, Wayamba University became a reality as a outcome of struggles for free education by all the university students.
Dr. Sanjeewa Bowatta assumed duties as the first Dean of the Faculty and under his leadership and supervision the faculty is successful achieving its targets.
Currently our Faculty is composed of three batches of students along with roughly 100 of Academic and Non-Academic Staff members.Covering an area of about 28 arcres , our Faculty will undoubtedly be the largest medical faculty in Sri Lanka. Our faculty is equipped with almost all the required facilities as a medical faculty. The medical faculty is built in an attractively landscaped premises. In addition, students are provided with internet facilities and staff to manage their educational and outdoor activities freely.
A huge number of beautiful and valuable plants have been planted in the premises as a result of the tree planting programs implemented in the early years of the idea of the students with the assistance of other staff members, which helps to develop the mental health of the students as well as to develop their aesthetic abilities and give them freedom.
Also, our faculty has a its unique architecture and it is spread over a vast area without congestion, which will open the door to education and extracurricular activities as well as peaceful university life which will ultimately create humanitarian students with critical mindset.

"ඉහළම වෘත්තීය ප්රමිතීන්ගෙන් යුතු සහ කුසලතාවන්ගෙන් පරිපූර්ණ,සමාජීය වශයෙන් වගකිව යුතු මෙන්ම සමාජීය විවිධත්වයට, විවේචනාත්මක චින්තනයට සහ නිර්මාණශීලීත්වයට සහයෝගය දෙමින් සංස්කෘතිය තුළ විනය වැඩිදියුණු කිරීමට කැපවුණු සෞඛ්ය සේවා වෘත්තිකයන් බිහි කිරීම" මෙහෙවර කර ගනිමින්ද,
"2018.12.10" වන දින වයඹ විශ්ව විද්යාලයේ 6 වන පීඨය ලෙසත් ශ්රී ලංකාවේ 9 වන වෛද්ය පීඨය ලෙසත් අප වයඹ වෛද්ය පීඨය ශිෂ්යයන් 72 කගෙන් ආරම්න වුණි.
එවකට විශ්ව විද්යාලයේ උපකුලපතිතුමන් වූ ජේෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය ඊ.එම්.පී ඒකනායක මහතාගේ සංකල්පයක්ව තිබූ වයඹ විශ්ව විද්යාලයේ වෛද්ය පීඨය නිදහස් අධ්යාපනය වෙනුවෙන් එදා මෙදා තුර හඬ නැගූ දහසකුත් සිසුන්ගේ උත්සාහය මල්ඵල ගැන්වීමක් ලෙස ලංකාවේ නව වන වෛද්ය පීඨය ලෙස රාජ්ය වෛද්යපීඨය අතරට එක් විය.අප පීඨයේ පළමු වැඩ බලන පීඨාධිපති තුමන් වූයේ මහාචාර්ය එම්. ඩී .ළමාවංශ මහතායි.එතුමන්ගේ අධීක්ෂණය සහ මෙහෙයවීම යටතේ වෛද්ය පීඨය මූලික අදියරවල් පසු කරන ලදි.පසුව විශේෂඥ වෛද්ය සංජීව බෝවත්ත මහතා පලමු පීඨාධිපතිතුමා ලෙස වැඩ භාරගත් අතර එතුමන්ගේ නායකත්වය සහ අධීක්ෂණය මෙන්ම මෙහෙයවීම යටතේ පීඨයේ වත්මන් වැඩකටයුතු සිදු වේ.
ජේෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය ඊ.එම්.පී.ඒකනායක මහතාගෙන් පසුව වත්මන් උපකුලපති තුමා ලෙස තම මෙහෙය ඉටු කරන්නේ ජේෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය උදිත් කේ. ජයසිංහ මහතායි. එතුමන්ගේ නායකත්වය අධීක්ෂණය සහ මෙහෙයවීම යටතේ වෛද්ය පීඨය දිනෙන් දින ඉදිරියට ගමන් කරමින් පවතී.
අප පීඨය තුල මේ වන විට විද්යාර්ථයින් කණ්ඩායම් ත්රිත්වයක් තම අධ්යන කටයුතු වල නිරත වන අතර අධ්යන හා අනධ්යන කර්යය මණ්ඩලය සියයකට ආසන්න ප්රමාණයක් තම සේවය සපයනු ලබයි.
අක්කර 28ක පමණ භූමි ප්රමාණයකින් යුක්ත වන අප පීඨය ශ්රී ලංකාවේ විශාලතම භූමි ප්රමාණයකට හිමිකම් කියන වෛද්ය පීඨය වනවාට කිසිදු සැකයක් නොමැත.අංගසම්පූර්ණ දේශණ ශාලා, විභාග මධ්යස්ථාන, පර්යේෂණාගාර,පුස්තකාල සහ පරිගණක පර්යේෂණාගාර අදී අධ්යපනික මෙන්ම ශ්රවණාගාර, ක්රීඩාංගන,ගෘහස්ථ ක්රීඩාංගන,කායවර්ධන ස්ථාන, ආපනශාලා, නේවාසිකාගාර සහ ශිෂ්යකේන්ද්රාගාර වැනි පහසුකම් වලින්ද අප පීඨය සමන්විත වේ.එමෙන්ම ආකර්ෂණීය ලෙස සකසන ලද භූමියක් තුළ වෛද්ය පීඨය ඉදිව තිබේ.මීට අමතරව සිසුන්ට නිදහසේ අද්යාපනික සහ බාහිර ක්රියාකාරකම් වල නිරත වීමට අවශ්ය අන්තර්ජාල පහසුකම්,සහ අනෙකුත් යටිතල පහසුකම් මෙන්ම , ඒවා කලමනාකරණයට සේවක පිරිස්ද ශිෂ්යයන්ගේ ආරක්ෂා තහවුරු කිරීමට ආරක්ෂක අංශද අප පීඨය සතු වේ.
මුල් වසර වල ශිෂ්යන්ගේ අදහසකට අනුව ක්රියාත්මක වන රුක් රෝපණ වැඩසටහන් නිසා පීඨය අලංකාවරවත් මෙන්ම වටිනා ශාක ගණනාවක් රෝපණය සිදු කරන ලද අතර එය ශිෂ්යයන්ගේ මානසික සෞඛ්යයට මෙන්ම ඔවුන්ගේ සෞන්දර්ය හැකියා වර්ධනය කිරීමටත් නිදහස ලබා දීමටත් උපකාරී වේ.
එසේම අප පීඨය ඊටම අනන්ය වූ ගෘහ නිර්මාණ ශිල්පයකට නිම වී ඇති අතර තදබදයෙකින් තොරව ඉතා විශාල භූමි ප්රමාණයක පැතිර පවතින නිසාවෙන් අධ්යාපනයත් ඉන් බාහිර ක්රියාකාරකම් මෙන්ම විශ්ව විද්යාල ජීවිතයේ වින්දනයටත් ඒ තුලින් සමබර මානවවාදී වෛද්ය ශිෂ්යක් බිහි වීමටත් දොරගුලු විවර වනු ඇත.
