The college empowers students to reach their full potential through a strong commitment to knowledge and personal development. Although we do not have a very long history, we are extremely proud of our short history we have. Maharagama President's College was started as a new school on 18th February 1978 with a group of students and several teachers. According to historical records, students were
housed in dilapidated buildings used as hostels at the Maharagama Training College. . It was previously used as a military barracks and earlier as a rubber factory. From the beginning it was the property of one Abeywardena family. All students and parents of President's College, Maharagama were indebted to then Member of Parliament Premaratne Gunasekera. The first principal of the college who was a pioneer of the college and then the Regional Director of Education was Mr. JSVS De Sousa laid a solid foundation for the college and his outstanding and efficient services over the past 12 years have greatly contributed to the present day upgrading of the College. Ranasinghe, who became the second principal, added more important elements to the college, including the Student Council, the Aesthetic Unit and the English Day program, which would give the college a new vision and reputation and keep pace with other leading schools in the island. Taking over as the next principal, Premaratne was able to increase the number of students to 4,000. As a result of his continuous efforts he was able to introduce a cadet, scout and cadet team. During his short tenure, the next principal of the college, S.S. With the arrival of the next Principal Mr. KAD, the College became a leading school not only in the area but also in the Sri Jayawardenapura Education Zone. Due to his dedicated service, he was able to develop the college to the standard of a national school, with the construction of a wall around the school premises, new buildings, an open-air theater, a student room and a media unit. In 2004, J.W.S. Siriwardena, a new principal, assumed duties as a blessing to the students and parents of the college. Among his new ventures were a number of important areas. These include the renovation of the school grounds, the assembly of an open space, the construction of a chapel room and a staff room. He launched new projects such as Sil and Meditation campaigns, sports festivals and cultural programs to promote moral and spiritual development. He was able to decentralize the management system to create a positive teaching learning environment in the school. Siriwardena, W.J.R. Wimalasena took over as the new principal in 2009. Within a short time of taking office, he was able to reorganize the school with a new vision. He was able to re-establish the Alumni Association and get the maximum contribution from them for the development of the school. He launched several projects to promote education as well as sports and other curriculum activities. He took a big step to repair it. Color wash all school buildings to make the school a very attractive and fun place for all students and teachers. He was able to modernize the school library, the canteen, the main hall and the primary section in a very short period of time. The present principal is mr.Wasantha Kumara.
