~ 𝔒𝔲𝔯 𝔇𝔢𝔢𝔭𝔢𝔰𝔱 𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔡𝔬𝔩𝔢𝔫𝔠𝔢𝔰 ~

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡 𝗘 𝗠 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗮, the founding Head of the Department of Plantation Management, Faculty of Agriculture & Plantation Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

He joined Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in 1996 and served as the Head of the Department from 03.01.2000 to 02.01.2006, providing visionary leadership in establishing and strengthening the department. He continued his dedicated academic service until his retirement on 11.06.2008.

His invaluable contributions, guidance, and commitment to excellence will always be remembered.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his life.

May his soul rest in peace.

Field Visit – Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka
04.02.2026 – 05.02.2026

A two-day field visit was conducted for Plantation Management specialized students to the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka, Talawakelle to gain practical exposure to tea cultivation, research, and estate management.

The visit included learning sessions and field observations at Craigie Lea Estate, Tea Research Institute, and St. Coombs Estate, covering key aspects of tea agronomy, field management practices, and research-based innovations.

Field Visit – Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation

A field visit was conducted on 03.02.2026 for Plantation Management specialized students to the Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation to provide practical exposure to cashew cultivation, estate management, and processing practices.

The visit covered key aspects of cashew plantation management and processing operations, enhancing students’ understanding of the cashew value chain from field to processing level.

As part of the Marketing & Quality Management subject, a field visit was conducted on 27.01.2026 to the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) for Plantation Management specialized students.

The visit focused on:
▫Product Certification schemes of SLSI, including SLS and Organic Certification, and standards relevant to plantation crop production
▫️ Role of SLSI as the National Standards Body
▫️ Overview of System Certifications (ISO and other relevant standards)
▫️ Importance of accreditation in quality assurance and market access

This visit provided students with valuable insights into the role of standards and certifications in improving product quality, consumer confidence, and competitiveness in plantation-based industries.

A field visit was successfully conducted on 22.01.2026 to the Rubber Research Institute of Sri Lanka to provide practical exposure to rubber cultivation and processing technologies.

The visit covered key areas including field planting techniques, rubber intensification strategies, tapping practices, pest and disease management, and processing methods such as crepe rubber and Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS) manufacturing. This visit enhanced students’ understanding of both field-level and processing aspects of the rubber industry.
